As a chemist I know why it was anti-climactic. Ice makes it explode because it flash-vaporizes to steam and won't mix with oil. CO2 already sublimates and will mix with oil so it just, turns to gas and disperses. If you want an explosion do this again with water instead of oil.

The next video should be the same experiment but with a propane tank that's almost empty (approximately 10% left or w/e). Then with the flame still on put the dry ice in. Though before putting in the dry ice, test the temperature with a infrared temperature gun (rated for at least around 500F). 400-450F is the smoke point (burn/flammable point) of vegetable oil. Also submerge the dry ice in water for at least 30 seconds before putting it in the frying strainer pan.

The reason nothing happened is because dry ice is co2 and this means two things. Fire doesn’t like co2 and the oil fires happen because of water not because of cold. When water is dropped into hot oil it sinks because of the density difference and then vaporizes causing a lot of pressure and an explosion under the oil which makes the hot oil exposed to more oxygen potentially starting a fire. Now imagine gallons of oil hot enough to give you 3rd degree burns in under a second and a water droplet the size of a turkey and then think of the reaction I described but thousands of times a second and you have a thanksgiving fireball. But without the water you’re just cooling down the oil. And that’s also why you never use water on a hot pan or to put out an oil fire or another type of liquid fire.

Deep fryers heat up to 350-375 degrees F, where as the melting point of a plastic tarp is 300 degrees F. So yeah, not only would the tarp do nothing it would add plastic to the mess.

The reason the dry ice didn't kaboom is because it sublimates instead of melts. The dry ice absorbs the heat and then creates a barrier of gas between it and the oil, while at the same time, it takes quite a bit of energy to go from a solid directly into a gas. On one hand you have the ice spending a lot of energy to sublimate, the ice not being very good at absorbing energy to begin with, and an insulating layer of gas between the ice and oil, all makes the ice very boring in comparison to water ice. What little energy it does absorb is spent to quickly to vaporise anything but surface level ice. In a way, it's not much different to ablative plating used in atmospheric re-entry. Edit: Please note I'm not a scientist, nor did I do any sort of research on the subject for this comment outside of making sure sublimation was the right word. While I believe my information to be accurate, it is most definitely not the whole story, and there is the possibility that it is not completely accurate. Take what I say with a grain of salt (same with everything you read from random people on the internet) and feel free to correct me if you are well informed on the subject and I missed something, or do research on your own if you have time and find it interesting.

The reason is didn't blow up might be because the cardon dioxide gas put off by the dry ice displaced all the oxygen, is you try again with regular blocks of ice it might explode spectacularly, just a theory.
