A&W was a drive up Burger place from the 60's. They used to make their own at each Drive-in. My little sister used to work at one in the late 60's. I just had a sugar free one today.

Root beer is a little more anise, sarspirilla is a little more minty. Dr Pepper’s base is prune. Very different. Root beer is great as a a root beer float with vanilla ice cream. Has to be COLD. And AW isn’t a good root beer. Pamplemousse is French for grapefruit.

We have another odd soda here in the southern US that might be interesting for you to try, mostly so we can laugh at your expense. Cheerwine - they claim to be the oldest continuing soft drink run by the same family. It is supposed to be wild cherry flavor but to me taste like hummingbird nectar.

A&W was originally a drive in fast food restaurant in the USA, as in like a 1950s park and a waitress came out to your car. They had those trays that hang on your car window and you get to spill food and beverages in your car while you eat, in your car, out in the A&W parking lot. The last one I know of was way out in Buckeye, Arizona which is no longer way out nor still a small town. Original root beer was an amber soda pop made using the bark of the sassafras tree Sassafras Albidum or the roots of the vine of Smilax Ornata and simply referred to sassafras root beer. Modern A&W Root Beer is now 100% artificially flavored crap & corn sweetener added to fizzy water. Barq's Root Beer was a much better root beer after A&W went to shit.
@Satchmoeddie6 ай бұрын
German Ballistol gun cleaner, wood, metal and leather preservative is a better root beer than A&W is for that matter. It smells more like licorice and antiseptic. It even has more natural ingredients than modern A&W root beer does too.

@@Satchmoeddie, We have a local soda and seltzer company that makes a good root beer which is much better than anything you can buy in a grocery store. And for that matter, NRBQ says that Brad should have tried "an RC Cola and a Moon Pie"! I only vaguely remember those from my childhood and I'll bet that the modern iterations, probably manufactured by some faceless Midwest corporation, don't taste like they used to.

@@goodun2974 Apparently straight natural Sassafras can no longer be used as flavoring due to the safety-Nazis in our government. Safrole which is also found in many other plants and many other spices might possibly perhaps cause cancer, if all you ever drink is Sassafras root beer, Sassafras tea, and you put heaps of nutmeg, anise, cinnamon, black pepper and or mace on everything that you eat, or you just live on a diet of these roots, herbs and spices. To be fair, safrole was used as an insecticide but so was violin rosin, which is the same exact thing as the rosin used for soldering in electronics. There is guy who moved in from Jamaica who makes a killer good ginger root beer here in town, and the steep price keeps me from drinking it in lieu of water. One of my neighbors brought home icky sweet soda pop 20-40 cases at a time. He died at a rather early age too. Another neighbor bought cheap beer the same way. Same story there. I enjoy a good root beer on rare occasions, much like I enjoy a fine cigar every year or two. It's not that I am that health conscious. It's more that I am that I am a broke and I just cannot afford that kind of stuff. Damn. Now I want a root beer. Well, there is that can of Ballistol under the kitchen sink.

Hey Brad, not sure if you've tried the Schlossgold non alc beer in a previous video / year. If you haven't, give it a shot. Comes in a 6 pack of 500ml cans for around $12.50 from DM's. I'd rate it.

Instead of Dry July, we have Sober October. It is the same deal, mainly for charity. I live in the Northeast of the US, winter sucks and everyone drinks because it is a depressed area of the country. Incidentally, I have an A & W restaurant near me in Cortland, NY. I will be driving past it in a little bit. As a kid, we used to put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a glass and poor the root beer over it. It would foam up like crazy and we loved them. As an adult we add Brandy to it and call it dessert. I guess I am the one weirdo in your community that likes root beer. Or did as a kid. I don't do sweets or alcohol anymore. I wish I could, but I can't, so I don't. Best to you all. See you for the Live Chat everyone!

I don't think that root beer and sarsaparilla are the same thing because the local family owned soda company makes root beer, sarsaparilla, and a White Birch beer as well. Sarsaparilla has flavor overtones of wintergreen but root beer does not.
