Remember what Lisa said: You wouldn't be able to do all that other strong amazing Mykayla stuff if you were super flexible! You might not have the "typical" flexibility but you make it work. Keep on being you and doing the great things you do! You'll smash Tokyo xxx
@JB113343 жыл бұрын
MyKayla you are flexible!!! People’s expectations of the human body are ridiculous. Not every one is freakishly flexible. My daughter is a gymnast and her body type is very much like yours. Her PT said that it’s her bone structure. She also works on her flexibility too. Coaches don’t always understand the human anatomy and really should work alongside PT’s to hear it for themselves.
@EpicFloorMusix2543 жыл бұрын
Yes! I'm a gymnast too, and while I am very flexible in my splits, I am not able to open my shoulders all the way no matter how much I stretch them. I don't go to physical therapy, but maybe this is why It's hard for me. Coaches should definitely work closer with PT's for it can make a huge difference.

As someone who IS flexible I 100% appreciate what you do. Anyone who has had teammates who struggled with flexibility should have more grace for Myk. I would be chilling in my over splits no problem and girls would work so hard to just get their splits. 10 years later I still have my good leg with zero training or stretching.

Poor myk. She looked so tired at physical therapy. Long journey coming to the end. You can do it! You are fabulous and do your best. Everyone is proud if you no matter what! You came so far!!

Wow she is soo much more chill during shockwave therapy than she was at the beginning! Myk you’re such a beast and a huge, huge inspiration ❤️ As Konnor said in the Golden documentary, “no one would hate on Mykayla Skinner if they knew how hard her skills are.” We could care less how “inflexible” you are! You rock it and use that shortcoming as your advantage in your gymnastics. We appreciate and love you!!
@francisp86333 жыл бұрын
Love how natural and candid MyKayla is in the videos. Doesn’t matter if she’s tired, has messed up hair, or done up, it makes her so much more relatable. Other vloggers are always pristine and done up with full caked on makeup, and they don’t come across genuine. Thank you MyKayla for showing true snapshots of who you are during the day.
@ShelleeGraham3 жыл бұрын
Interesting to see the physical therapy, especially the acupuncture. It was good when MyKayla said, “I wish the gymnastics community would appreciate me for what I do.” She is of course, referencing the criticism of her (slightly bent-looking legs) form / execution. MyKayla does the very best that she can with the body that God has gifted her with. Let’s celebrate 🎉 all the GREAT 👍 things MyKayla can do and continues to do! She needs our love 💕 and support!

My legs are a lot like Mykayla’s! I’m a dancer and it’s all about looking graceful with straight legs, but my knees just aren’t built that way. My hips are plenty flexible, but my knees just won’t completely straighten after 14 years, no matter how hard I try
@KatieLHall-fy1hw3 жыл бұрын
Part of it is general body structure, too. Like if you have knobbier knees, it will look bent, even if it isn’t. Or is yo calves are really developed (a la myself) it can also give the illusion your leg is slightly bent
@felicialovesnkotb3 жыл бұрын
I don't think her legs look bent at all. I just pulled up her bars routine from day 2 at Trials, and her legs look perfectly straight to me.
@arynnester3 жыл бұрын
@@chloebrower2598 I have the same leg structure as well. I danced competitively for 5 years, and ended up quitting because my teachers didn’t understand that I physically couldn’t straighten my knees any more, and bullied me because I didn’t have the ideal dancer body. I’m glad that Mykayla is mentioning her struggles with flexibility and how her body is shaped though, because it makes me feel seen, and helps me understand that I wasn’t at fault for having a different body.
@chloebrower25983 жыл бұрын
@@arynnester I’m so sorry you had that experience. I hope you can find joy in dance in a different way if that’s what you want! I think it’s really nice that Mykayla said this because it makes me feel seen too. I wish more people understood that some bodies just aren’t built for hyperextension even though that’s what’s desired in the dance world.

This is really interesting. Important things happen outside of the gym and besides training. Good physiotherapy is obviously critical.
@kiabtoomlauj62493 жыл бұрын
Physiotherapy is one of the least appreciated parts of sports. The men and women who spend years or even decades trying to deal with muscles --- which are incredibly fickle: you never know when they're going to start having spasms of their own, totally out of your control or your brain's control ---- they need to be appreciated more. I was grossed out seeing those dozen or so acupuncture needles around her ankles. That's one of the real "eastern medicine" that has started to gain mainstream traction in the West, especially in physiotheraputic/sports medicine; no one knows for sure how they work, in terms of the mechanics (we know, for example, how a molecular compound works in our body when it interacts with the targeted nerve or cellular pathway); but that technique seems to work wonders for some people in muscle tension release/relaxation....

Thanks for just being you. Keep doing you... You are amazing, good luck!!! 🤸🏼🤍

I think being less flexible has probably been one of the reasons you have had fewer injuries and no career ending ones. You might not been totally flexible, but you get strength instead.
@iceunelle3 жыл бұрын
This is probably true since the more flexible you are, the higher chance you have of getting injured. I'm the furthest thing from flexible and I only ended up getting hurt twice in about 16 years of playing high level sports.
