Cajun Country Living opened a can of worms with their dry pour video. So I did what they instructed and it worked! I added some tips to help people who have had issues with cracked edges and base material not sinking to the bottom while using a 2x4 to smooth and I think my way may help some of you. Check it out and let me know what you think. Again, huge kudos to Cajun Country Living. Without their video, I wouldn't haven't been able to complete or even start on some of my projects.

Thank you for making this video. I am dry pouring concrete. 1st time. Made 2 pavers, but the top isn't as smooth. It's total trial and error. I tried a Quikrete sand for the top layer, but it changed the color of the paver to a darker tone. This really helps. I will try doing this top layer method by sifting out the gravel. I like this better than using mortar.

Great! This is the sole Dry Pour Concrete project which cares about the surface. Generally dry pour concrete's surface is so rough.

With your attention to detail and relative small pours you will have better results with wet pours.

Don't know how. Dry Pour is better for rookies. No time constraints. Wet pour you have a limited time once that concrete is mixed wet. Dry Pour as you can see in my video. I can adjust what I need until I am ready to soak. It's better for me. Small walkways are fine for me. Thank you though.

The high strength concrete has more rocks in it. You are basically using regular concrete and mortar on top. the difference between high strength, regular and mortar is the size of rocks/sand.

I'm going to try some of your methods. I have a bullnose edging trowel I want to try with a little water on a dry pour to see if I can do it. You have given me the courage to try. Thank you.

@@wabashkid Thanks. I am now having a retaining wall built and adding french drain pipe behind it. I'm thinking some dry pour there too to make water flow better. I will probably be teaching the professional mason about dry pour. He seems to be interested in learning about new materials, so likely he wants to know about this too.
@wabashkid
@wabashkid Жыл бұрын
@@suzanneseale9543 I just had to do a French drain myself. I DIY'd it. That is the reason I started doing a dry pour it's because I had concrete slabs sinking in where the water would pool. So I poured another slab on top of another with the dry pour method. I just made sure I used some concrete adhesive.
@suzanneseale9543
@suzanneseale9543 Жыл бұрын
@@wabashkid Good to know. I had heard water getting under the footing could cause undermining of the footing. With that I will be extra careful to be sure the french drain works right and water isn't sitting near the footing. And probably add dry pour because there is no way to easily get wet concrete into the space and smooth it out like is possible with dry pour.

Plumb refers to something, a wall in most cases, is straight up and down. The term “level” refers to something being straight from side to side- like a floor, if your floor is not level you may have some problems.

@@DiyTheGrapplerwhen you edge it wet just keep the hose on mist and close by. If it shatters while edging just moist it before going back over with the edger. And then use the sponge 🧽 to reapply your texture. Just don't put too much pressure. Hope that helps man! Thanks for the feedback also!! 16:38

Danny I'm not a professional or certified by any means. I cannot tell you what the recommended psi is for concrete. Especially as a dry pour method. So with that being said if I were to pour something for a vehicle I would definitely go 4in depth and some metal reinforcement in the concrete.

@@wabashkid I agree. Min 3 1/2 inch and use the Steel Wire Remesh Sheet in each section. Use the expansion joint strips from quickcrete between each section. Glue the strip to concrete edge and pour directly to that. Meaning make that the side of the form. Edge and fish as in other videos. Water, water, water, the first 48 hours best to even cover with a blanket of some sort and keep it soaking wet. Wait at least 72 hours before pulling the forms. The longer the better. Wait a minimum of 3 1/2 weeks from when you pull the forms, not the day you pour, before you put ANY weight more than yourself.

Is it possible to trowel the top to make it smooth just after you spray the first time?
@wabashkid
@wabashkid 11 ай бұрын
Not sure boss..haven't tried. Only the edging while wet. I have tried the trowel dry. I think it's in one of videos. I'd assume no though unless you want a smooth non textured surface. The trowel is flat and smooth so when wet it will stay that way after the troweling unless you happen to hit the exact amount of water to trowel and re apply the broom finish to get the texture back. This is all hypothetical. I've never done it.

For such a small slab why put the board in between the two spots and how do you keep that board from rotting?
@wabashkid

The board is my form, once the concrete cures I remove the form (boards). So it doesn't stay in to rot. I hope I understood you correctly. Thanks for watching!

I'm not lazy I'm inexperienced. Obviously I'm not lazy because you can see all the work I did in the video including the other areas I worked on. It's not like people are going around doing free work with contractors adding additional cost due to everyone's favorite excuse "supply chain". So if you want to do work at a cost of $200 in total like this project cost me let me know.

But it won't cost you a dime more to do it wet. The water will add less than $1 to the entire project. I can totally understand dry-pour if you have a large area, and not enough time to screed it by yourself before it hardens, but if you do many tiny slabs, doing it wet will actually be easier, and you won't get concrete sand kicking up after it's dry. Not to mention, it will last longer\harden better. But if you do a 25'X5' walkway in one go, than I'd go with dry-pour (unless you have 2 more people on site to help you, one constantly mixing new batches, one helping you pour and screed).

It’s funny you are telling someone not to be lazy when they are actually working doing something they wish to try. You need to do better it’s not your decision on what’s the best way for him.
