Hi Everyone! This video was done in August of 2021 and I didn't publish it because I was having a lot of problems with the audio. I cleaned it up as best as I can and decided to publish it. Thanks for your patience!

I'm absolutely LOVING shady / woodland gardening, can't even believe it myself, it's such a different exercise from the obvious "sunny garden, gardening" 😍

I agree Kevin, it's very different but so much more interesting as it's kind of a tapestry of plants comingling with one another and you really have to work at it so the reward is so much better when you are finally successful! So glad you are enjoying it and thanks for sharing! : )

Nicole, this video really made me miss all the gorgeous foliage of the plants in my landscape that are sleeping (in hibernation) right now. Thanks for releasing this pleasant footage, even though you weren't pleased with the audio. Last year, I added many evergreen shrubs and small evergreen trees to elevate the winter interest in my garden, and I love how it's starting to look. Thanks for sharing your lovely gardens with us. ~Margie

You are so welcome Margie! So glad to hear that you added more evergreens and are happy with your garden. It was shocking when I first opened this video to edit it again and saw all of that color after being buried under a carpet of white all week. It always surprises me how different the garden looks from winter to summer. Thanks for stopping by!!

Oh my gosh. WHERE did you get that fountain!!? I had one in my garden for many years and loved it so much. It was similar to yours and the water sound was amazing. I love that it wasn’t ornate, ya know? More French and oeganic. As if it had been there 100 years. We moved and my husband refused to pay to move the fountain because it was massive and concrete. Lol. And I’ve never seen another one similar. I miss it. Your garden is lovely:) thank you. I just want to sit there, hear the birds and enjoy the sounds.

Your garden is beautiful. What you did to it with little light and sun is fantastic. I love the bike and the basket of flowers. So creative. I'd love that in a photoshoot. I'm helping a neighbor with a brink planter box in front of her home which gets about 3 hours of morning dappled light. After watching your video I'm thinking smaller hostas, caladium, and Lamium for sure, and maybe a few inpatients for a pop of color. It's about 8' x 2'. Zone 9b What do you think?
@planttasticcookinggardenin1561
@planttasticcookinggardenin1561 Жыл бұрын
Thank you!! I think your ideas sound wonderful, although from past experience, go bigger with your hostas as they can get lost. Just divide each year if they overgrow.

Thank you so much Nora! Caladium bulbs are really easy to store. Dig them up on a dry day, clean them off with a soft brush, then put them in paper bags with pine shavings. They are best stored at 50 degrees F/10 C. to keep them dormant. Sadly I did not have the time to get mine up last fall. I'm so mad at myself as they were beautiful.

Plant fast growing trees, you'll have a shade garden area in a few years. We have deer and rabbits here too. It took us several years to get enough plants growing...now we don't notice the damage. Plant a lot of prickly and spiny plants near the hosta and spray them with egg and soap mixture after every rain until established. It works for us!

Hi Nichol. Wow amazing garden. I too have dry Sandy soil here in zone 7b Queens NY. How often do you put down the organic compost to amend your soil? I’ve been doing the shredded leaf as natural mulch & I use organic espoma fertilizer yet I feel it’s not enough… there are some plants that do better then others. It’s always a working progress. TY for sharing.
@planttasticcookinggardenin1561
@planttasticcookinggardenin1561 Жыл бұрын
Thanks again! It really depends on the bed and plant. If the bed is doing well, once a year. If it is struggling, twice a year. We have white oaks in our garden and they take forever to break down and become available to plants even if shredded so I tend to use compost from other sources as my go to but still use the leaf mold as a mulch topper.

@planttasticcookinggardenin1561

Yes Janice, we are in zone 6b so these must be replanted each year. If you have storage space you can lift them in the fall and store them for the winter, eliminating the need to rebuy the same bulbs.
