Dry Stone Walling - Building A New Wall With A Swan Neck

This project building a new wall with a swan neck took all of my skills to make it work in the place the customer wanted it.
We had to use minimal through stone’s, and also clad some of the buildings foundations in dry stone to cover them, then build off the top of that making a seamless blend between cladding and dry stone.
We also had to use square coping stone’s, as the wall adjacent to it already had that style of cope.

Truly beautiful work. I've been lucky enough to see something similar in Portugal. It creates the most aesthetically pleasing interiors going. Really hope that I can have something similar in the UK somewhere. Excellent work.

Great job Tom. In the west of Ireland myself if I can't find through stone's I use a bit of chicken wire double or trembled over and use mortar or concrete.

Wow, that curved top stone set looks brilliant! As a fellow Yorkshireman, I love seeing walls new, old and rebuilt. The whole job looks top notch. I’m just waiting for some dates with the DSWA to take some training. Don’t think I’ll reach this standard for certain. I like that the mortar is used only where it’s needed too. Good stone to work with, fair bit of time spent dressing them. Quality job. Far better masonry skills than those on the house. Do you want a job? Would employ you. Pity about lack of through stones every 600mm, but should be fine on a concrete foundation and mortar filling.
