Très belle chanson, merveilleux. Tiré du poème de l'écrivain ivoirien Bernard B-DADIÉ " SÉCHE TES PLEURS AFRIQUE. film AMISTAD.

That is incredibly beautiful. At the risk of sounding corny, the human language fails miserably at describing the incredible beautify and power of this piece. It is timeless in every sense of the word.

With so much shade cast upon Africa and African people on the continent and throughout the Diaspora, I believe it is not a small thing to have something African-centered to be so appreciated. I once heard a male choir from Wales (I believe it was) sing "Nkosi Sikelel iAfrika" with much feeling. This was once a protest song, now the national anthem of South Africa. I like to think that when those guys sang that song, they felt some of the meaning it conveys. Whenever I hear it, I always tear up. It reminds me of the spirituals my ancestors sang during slavery here in the USA.

Amber: This is a German Choir I believe. You might notice that there are very few Mende or North West African speakers (or singers) in Germany. We who are African love the way that they sing, and move so deliciously. Come South to us and we will teach you how to sing in Zulu, Swazi, and even Xhosa, if you don't swallow , and rejoice in our new-found FREEDOM with us - while we dry our tears.

Here's a close transcription (and free translation) of the Mende lyrics. Of course a phonetic transcription (for non-Mende speakers) might further simplify this: Bi yama yelah (Dry your tears) Bi lengesia ti yamanga bi gamah (Your children have returned to you) Bi yama yelah (Dry your tears) Bi lengesia ti yamanga (Your children have returned) Ba woh, kahun gbia way yaa (Weep not, sing a song of joy) Ba woh, kahun gbia way yaa (Weep not, sing a song of joy) O bi yama yelah (O dry your eyes) Bi lengesia ti yamanga (Your children have returned) Mu yama muyei (We've returned home) Mu yama muyei (We've returned home) Mu yama muyei, Africa (We've returned home, Africa) Mu yama muyei (We've returned home) Mu yama muyei (We've returned home) Mu yama muyei, Africa (We've returned home, Africa) Bi yama yelah (Dry your tears) Bi lengesia ti yamanga (Your children have returned) Mu yama muyei (We've returned home) Bi lengesia bi gama (Your children to you) O bi yama yelah (O dry your tears) Bi lengesia ti yamanga (Your children have returned) Mu yama muyei (We've returned home) Mu yama muyei (We've returned home) Mu yama muyei, Africa (We've returned home, Africa) Mu yama muyei (We've returned home) Mu yama muyei (We've returned home) Mu yama muyei, Africa (We've returned home, Africa) Mu yama muyei (We've returned home) Mu yama muyei (We've returned home) Mu yama muyei, Africa (We've returned home, Africa) Bi yama yelah (Dry your tears) Bi lengesia ti yamanga (Your children have returned home) Bi yama yelah (Dry your tears) Bi lengesia ti yamanga (Your children have returned) Mu yama muyei (We've returned home) x2 Mu yama muyei, Africa (We've returned home, Africa) Mu yama muyei (We've returned home) x2 Mu yama muyei, Africa (We've returned home, Africa)
