I like the contrast of the plaster with the drywall It looks really cool and makes the plaster an even nicer touch in my opinion!

the walls are coming along nicely ... wouldn't mind seeing a deep dive video on plastering tips and tricks.

thank you. maybe once we work on the exterior, but for now we are still learning. It is one of those tasks where you just have to dive in and get your hands dirty (literally) to get a feel for it and what feels right for you, learning as you go.. but i will think more on this if there is anything i feel would be helpful in the up coming videos. thanks for watching!

Love that sheet rock lift. Gonna need one of those for our ceiling one day soon. Your plaster looks really "creamy". A sponge float will smooth out the irregularities. It won't flatten the wall, but it will smooth it out nicely. Another great video and you're closing in on 1K subs! Keep it up!

yes the lift is a must, it does come in handy! gosh why didn't i consider trying the sponge float! - we have one because we bought one for the final coat. Great idea, we did search for a plastic trowel but no luck there. thanks for all you have done for us :)

Wow, what a neat house! The niche in the wall is a great touch. My first time at your channel and subscribed. I'm impressed! Y'all made short work finishing those walls. Holding my breath while you were up on the ladders. You kids be careful. Best regards from an old woman in the desert.

Green sponge float is what I learned on this past summer. It brings the aggregate to the surface. If your sand is large the finish will be bumpy. It is tricky to start when the plaster is hard enough to stay on the wall but soft enough to slightly move the high points into the low points. Remember to keep the sponge wet enough and to clean it. Use a splash brush to add small amounts of moisture or the mister setting on a hose. Add small amounts of mud to depressions and run the sponge over it. Use circles and figure eights to move the surface about. I have not worked with lime and sand, only cement and sand with a bit of lime. I have helped with strawbale 15 years ago and your walls are by far the flattest I have seen.

thank you for such a thorough comment. We did actually use a green float this past weekend and it worked really well (wish we would have tried that earlier) but now we know atleast for our exterior and 3rd coat. I will definitely be using your tips when the time comes soon! I need to tell hubby that, he doesn't think our walls are very flat😄, thanks again!

the second thing is gypsum boards do not like high humidity. And this is what you provided for them while applying the clay and pouring it over it

Hope all staples are galvanised or the lime will eat them and cause mesh to pop off over time I think. Great project though love your house

Sorry you couldn't master the water spraying with the long trowel trick. It levels the surface as well as smooths. Takes a little practice getting the right amount of water and keeping the trowel clean and moving with the right amount of pressure.
@buildingroots58733 жыл бұрын
we actually had done all of this prior to your comment(trying to catch up on editing). I was thinking though that you meant for the 3rd coat so we hadn't tried your method quite yet. We used a green foam float today and it worked pretty well for us

So exciting, I can’t believe you got all the inside plaster done already!! I am struggling because my dream is to use straw bale on the rebuild of our living room, kitchen, master bedroom and garage and I just don’t know how to begin the planning. Did you guys create the building plans by yourself or hire someone?
@buildingroots58733 жыл бұрын
we still have quite a ways to go, its a slow process. we created the plans ourselves. for me, i started by knowing i wanted the kitchen to face south windows and went from there. i then went and looked at how much window glazing on each wall is needed for passive solar. you may want an engineer to look it over once you have your ideas. do u have facebook? build your own house - owner builders is a great group to be in to get inspiration. best of luck

hello. the walls are doing pretty well. There are no cracks inside however the exterior does have cracks in areas that would be prone to them. around some corners, where the roof meets plaster areas.
@leebstill2 жыл бұрын
What did you do about the joints of the drywall that meet the strawbale plastered walls?
@buildingroots58732 жыл бұрын
we nailed a strip of plywood against the strawbale, roughly 2-4" past either side of the 2x4 all the way up. then cover this is roofing felt
