Careful with this mod. The CDI’s units are also looking for the correct TPS input, and stator timing, which are different between the E and S/SM engines. The ignition maps are bespoke to each model. The kick-only and E engines will take more RPM because the crank is significantly lighter. Yes, they’ll run if swapped, but require significant tuning to get the most out of the mod without long term damage to the piston, valves, and drive ability.

@T.S.-eo7my actually the kick start e and the electric start e have same cdi same curve and the electric start e and the s or sm have the same crank different cams carb and more compression rear sub frame and exhaust wire harness but if you have a drz400 of any kind and want to make more rpm and have supporting mods it's a must do especially if you have stage 2 hot cams fcr car and full exhaust

Could a cdi box going bad cause one to die after it gets hot. Will ride for 30-40 mins then it dies. Let it sit little bit and it will start back

Check for spark sounds more like you either have gas in oil or carb issues or low compression
