Bought an Eminence Z 12" and I'm really impressed... it's one of my favorites now.

1:30 Where you talk about other companies over the years trying to emulate Celestion. Curious what you think of Mojotone's attempt at the Pulsonic cone 67-73 era greenbacks with their British Vintage series. I'm a recent convert. Running a Maz 18 Junior head through a pair right now in fact; the M and the V.

Thanks Dr. Z you're the best!! I just bought a Red SRZ-65 LE #003!! So stoked....just the greatest sounding amp, clarity like I've never experience even at higher gain settings!! Cheers!!!

Frankly in my experience Celestions seem an improvement on the Fender amps I've used them with. took away some of the sterile sound, gave them a little color.

I love the proprietary 10’s! I have a pre master remedy head with a matching 2x10” cab with the proprietary 10’s. Huge tones. I’m about to order the proprietary 12” for my maz 18 to get some warmer fuller tones than the V30 that’s in there now. If they are anything like the 10’s then I’m super stoked!
@DrZAmplification5 жыл бұрын
Hi Aaron, the Eminence Z12 would certainly have less mids and top end than a V30, and is less efficient so it would produce a pretty different sound than a v30.
@aaronbrooks39135 жыл бұрын
Dr Z Amplification I probably need a less efficient speaker anyways because everyone tells me I’m too loud haha. Your remedy and 2x10” can got me so many compliments this weekend in Lynchburg, TN and Auburn, AL
@DrZAmplification5 жыл бұрын
@@aaronbrooks3913 Awesome! I'm curious as well, is you MAZ 18 an Mk. I? The master volume on the Mk. II version is very very effective at controlling volume without loss of tone, and the EQ voicing is smoother and warmer. If you were interested the mod, I can provide you with comparison clips.
@aaronbrooks39135 жыл бұрын
Dr Z Amplification well on the back it says mkii. But it was one of the ones that you had a dealer send back to you to see if it was a mkii. It’s definitely one of the earlier mkii’s. How about I send it to ya for the yearly check up and while you have it I’ll purchase one of your proprietary 12’s and y’all drop it in there for me. If that’s cool?
@DrZAmplification5 жыл бұрын
@@aaronbrooks3913 Ok yes, then it's certainly an Mk. II. I don't feel as if the V30 is the right pairing for that amp. I think a Z12 for a darker tone or a Celestion Creamback for warmth would suit it the best. Feel free to contact Don at repairs@drzamps.com to schedule a check up or if you would like to order a speaker.

magnet strength is sort of: weak magnet = more low end near resonance but less punch and sloshy / strong magnet = less low end at resonance but punchy and defined ... and of corse resonant frequency is a trade off with sensitivity... it's a balancing act ... Eminence really knows what they are doing, like you said....and it is complicated. i am going with Weber because they have the type of speakers i am looking for .... no specs though, they want you to go on their reputation alone; which is all good and fine, but that still doesn't help me make educated cabinet decisions at any detailed level....so i have to wait until i can afford them to really dial it in... i just know i am in the mathematical ball park, as 15" guitar speakers go, and i do want to run some damping, so the cabinet reflections don't wreak havoc with the large cones top end...probably just 2" studio foam on the removable panel ... that should do...maybe one on the bevel too, or one on a side....that's tweak vs. cost though.....*but something, just because it is a large cone.*

Fascinating presentation Doc, some terrific insight and analysis there. I'm running my early Maz 18 NR head thru a single Black Shadow 10 inch Mesa Boogie Lonestar cab. I think the Mesa Black Shadow is produced by Eminence. I'm gigging medium sized pubs/clubs with this rig in a four piece drums/bass/guitars. Can't believe the flexibility of the Maz and the way it keeps up. Any thoughts on single 1x10?

if you like a warmer sound for your british style amp, you will probably like the z12

The new amp is “top loaded”... Just curious, what does “top loaded” mean?
@DrZAmplification6 жыл бұрын
It's just a way of describing how the amp chassis is loaded into the cabinet, in the case of the Z-Wreck combo and the upcoming X-Ray, they are loaded with the chassis controls sticking out of the top, like on an AC30.

You said it correct: copies.
@DrZAmplification6 жыл бұрын
colaboytje compare a SRZ 65s output section and transformer to a Marshall and you will find it is quite different. Look at a MAZ preamp and you will find it is an amalgamation of various circuity from the big 3 forefathers tuned together into a different preamp. Dr. Z has never made a copy of an amp, not that there is anything wrong with that, many manufacturers make higher quality copies from old schematics. There are influences and circuitry taken from other designs, the same as Fender and Marshall took their circuitry from RCA tube manufacturer’s manuals and applied them to guitar amplifiers with adjustments made to suit their preferences. Copy, influence, inspiration, it’s degrees of the same circuits that have been around since the beginning of vacuum, no one makes any claims to designing a wholly original design because there simply isn’t such a thing in terms of electric guitar amplifiers. But thank your for telling us he said it CORRECTLY.
@colaboytje6 жыл бұрын
Dr Z Amplification Ha, I own a Dr. Z Maz Junior reverb head. I love the amp. But as I have an early version, there is a design flaw (kind of) with the reverb section. He said they weren copies on the video. I agree. So, what is the issue?
@DrZAmplification6 жыл бұрын
I don't know, you are the one bringing it up. And with early MAZ's, not so much a flaw but a weak reverb circuit, where the returned was tied to the master volume. The reverb has since been improved exponentially in the MKII offering, as it is completely redesigned. Enjoy a demo of the MKII MAZ series: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJ_Mg5Wep6qZps0
