The Swan Silvertones are quartet gospel royalty and the very epitome of the word Legendary. The group’s Golden Age (1950-1960s) recordings featuring the incomparable falsetto of Rev. Claude Jeter & the raw shouts of Louis Johnson have been well documented and re-issued. Unfortunately, with the exception of a few compilations pulling from various 1970s LPs on the group, much of their output from the 1970s & 1980s has not seen the light of day in digital format. Their many recordings with Louis Johnson at the helm during this era run the gamut from hard funk to modern gospel ballads. Enjoy this 5-minute mix featuring songs from The Swan Silvertones “You Pray On” LP released in 1972 on HOB. This LP is a great example of the post-Claude Jeter 1970s sound of this Legendary ensemble. Rev. Jeter replacement James Lewis handles falsetto duties and Louis Johnson sings primary lead throughout. This release is yet to be made available digitally anywhere. In an effort to share a snapshot from various quartet gems from the Quartet Archives, I'll periodically share these 5-minute mixes with samples of various songs taken from actual album. It would mean so much to me. I am a 17 year old bass singer and I want to bring Bobo's style of bassing bring bass singers back to black quartet Gospel. Please! I know everythere is to know about Mr Bobo. I've even talked to his family.

Sounds real good The Swan Silverstones after the great Claude Jeter had departed I'm not sure if Paul Owens was still with them.

The Swans lineup for this album was Louis Johnson, James Lewis, John Myles, Sam Hubbard, Bill Elliott, Marvin Lattimore and Mickey Martin. Paul was working with the Capital City Stars around this time getting ready to release the monster LP "Jesus Is On The Mainline" on ABC/Peacock in '74.
