Wow, this was a invaluable tutorial in understanding how this bass lines was created. My ears told me lots was going on, but I didn’t have basic understanding of the parameter tweaking needed to dial it in. So much info here for me to study! Thanks!

This is so great! You solved a mystery for me too. I was trying to use my ears to see if the bassline was made of any other notes another two notes at each end of the octave, but you should brilliantly how sculpting the sound brings in the illusion of other notes, esp. as you start tweaking at 2:30 and drop out some of the notes for spaces. Does that sense of illusion make sense to you?

I love it BUT (I hate to be that guy) but this pattern is only the first 2 measures of a 4 bar pattern. Bars 3 and 4 are very different from 1 and 2. You have to listen to the song carefully, even slow it down a little to hear the pattern in bars 3 and 4. On the 3rd bar, you clearly hear additional beats come in. Even I am having trouble isolating the exact pattern to 3 and 4. And it's driving me INSANE! ;) - aaaaand I found a bass tab video that expands on this one. BTW....fkn-awesome dude!

What did they have as a, like, master 'brain' sending out the midi clock when they did this tour?
@somnaut
@somnaut 4 жыл бұрын
They had a tape machine backstage. Everything else was played live. Any sequencer-type parts (like this bassline) would be on tape. They were playing the melodic and chordal parts live. So the answer is, there was no midi clock to the performers, they just played their keyboards. Saw this tour, as well as the previous two. To me, those were the deepest most vibey Mode shows. After that it got a bit 'rock' for my tastes.
