Help us to generate 10,000 clips of members of the public using a language called Makaton. It's simple, fun, and will help raise funds for Down's South London (DSL)'s free specialist early intervention therapy this London-based charity provides to babies and children with Down's Syndrome and their families.
Being able to communicate is one of the most important skills we need in life. Almost everything we do involves communication; everyday tasks such as learning at school, asking for food and drink, sorting out problems, making friends and having fun. These all rely on our ability to communicate with each other.
Makaton uses speech with signs (gestures) and symbols (pictures) to help people communicate. Around 100,000 children and adults use Makaton as their main method of communication or as a way to support speech. It's also widely used by children with Down's Syndrome and in DSL's therapy.
The Makaton Charity (www.makaton.org) is responsible for developing and sharing the Makaton language programme and aims to make sure that as many people who need to use Makaton can. Our challenge has its full support.
