Pardon, but how is it a game changer, and of what game exactly? What exactly would it do that my Sony 16-70 ZA OSS won't, apart from open wider? F4 on my Sony is a bit meh, but to me it's a "train toilet" type of lens, it'll work for damn near everything except low light, just don't try to be fancy shmanzy artsy fartsy with it - it does it's job and clocks out on the dot. I have cine primes for when I want to get artsyfartsy etc, the Sony is a "I don't give a s*it gimme a picture" lens a lot of the time. The Sony having OSS is part of why I have it, slap it on when I can't or won't "plan a shot" so to speak - which is kinda the purpose of zooms to me.

I have the Tamron 17-70 on my FX30. I personally like the larger size, however it’s still a fairly small lens. It just looks a lot bigger when it’s side by side with the Sigma. I think the Tamron is worth it for the extra reach, especially if you shoot interviews frequently. 70mm at 2.8 gives a very nice look. Another lens worth considering is the Tamron 11-20mm 2.8. It’s a great compliment to the 17-70. And of course, there’s the Tamron 70-180, which I’d like to get in order to cover the full range.

There can be a bit of gear gatekeeping in photography/cinematography. Mostly just out of buyer's remorse that modern budget $500 lenses can compete so closely with lenses costing 10x more. Don't be afraid of budget lenses. They are often shockingly good. I've got an 85mm Rokinon cine that has absolutely no business being as tack sharp as it is. Nice low budget options here. I'm studying all low budget options for my xt4 rig. I have a Mitakon 35mm .95 and my analog Pentax lenses + a very good Pentax zoom for APSC but I always come across tiny problems like small diameter, too compact or that extending barrel, all those could in the near future cause issues like the inability to mount a follow focus, or a matte box. So I think one needs to think about those points not to have to buy lenses twice because there is an issue down the line.

@@antone9751 I have no issues with it. Bought it for 200€. It’s my main lens because is so sharp and has it’s own character. That scenario is not going to happen in real life. Autofocus is a tool. What makes it great on the Sony’s is that it is reliable, not that is perfect. You still need to be on top of things. Even with the best lenses, you need shortcuts to disengage It, to change it’s mode or speed etc. and need to be ready to go manually any time. Watch Philip Bloom talk about it. If you need to zoom mid shot it's unusable, even if you just need to quickly zoom and have to camera immediately refocus it can be hit or miss. I'm really intrigued by a lot of the lenses you mentioned today. The big problem I'm having with the Sony aps-c line is that there isn't many options for any wide-angle zoom that is quite enough for vlogging with an aperture low enough for indoors. The 11 to 20 seems to be really the only option these days, but nobody's talking about it for video or fx30. As intriguing as all of these lenses are and that they have great prices. As far as I can see there's nothing any wider than that 16 mm sigma. And I have the 16-55 Sony which is a brilliant lens but not quite wide enough for many vlogging situations.
