I go through the cumbersome firmware upgrade procedure and review of the changes in the new 060 firmware for the DSO138. Sadly, it doesn't address the biggest issues with the device - but it goes a long way to make it better. I also find out what happens if a firmware update fails.
Original DSO138 review here: • DSO138, the $23.50, 20...

I almost had a heart attack when you started fiddling with the cable during FW update. I always worry about something going wrong and ending up bricking the device. Fortunately, no problem.

I've studied some linguistics in my time--and your accent is as broad as a barndoor! I love it. David Niven ain't got nothin' on you. If I didn't know from the context, I'd mistake "slowly" for "slyly." I love it.

Hi. I followed exactly all the steps It worked just fine, no worries, upgraded to Ver. 061. But after the update I had functionality issues like: The amplitude readings were not correct testing the calibration probe there should be someting like 3.7 Vpp- in V042 version it was correct, but in Ver.062 the readings were like 0.9Vpp. Under 1Vpp! I had to return the firmware to Ver.042.. Thank you to remind to save the original Firmware..

You may be right ... OS/2 comes to mind when you mention that time period ... an operating system that I actually used for a while and thought had potential. It's still possible to make single executable programs for Windows, but even that is really an illusion since it will always rely on DLL files to perform certain functions. I think the closest thing we have today are the "portable apps" that can be installed on thumb drives and executed without needing to be installed. And as I think about it, it's probably for the best that installation is required, because when software can have access to sensitive areas of an operating system without any security measures being taken, its all bad for the user. This is why I like OSX (soon to be MacOS) ... the security that is offers is very good and does not really hinder the user experience at all. Apple engineering is amazing in my opinion.

i know this is old , but you just demonstrated why you should immobilize your connections before flash so they dont get bumped. Also the flash app you show is also teh same you you can use to flash STM32F103's now the the arduino IDE and even use to to put a arduino Nano like boot loader on your STM32F devices. Thanks for vid man .

thanks.... got one of these for Christmas. it was purchased on Amazon. it is definitely a counterfit. i would have never even suspected this if I hadn't seen this video. the first one came with a broken display. the second one has the trigger LED stuck on. took the display from the second one and put it on the first. I now have a functional unit but can't fine tune the probe as per instructions. swapped out the tuning capacitor to no avail. I'm not doing any high speed stuff so I don't really care. my ground is sitting at 2v. when measuring a 12v and -12v power supply I get 14v and -10v. I am running it with a 12v supply and suspect the 9v regulator in the scope is junk. hopefully when I find a 9v power supply this will go away. bottom line....after seeing this video I would NEVER attempt the upgrade....thanks again!!

Any idea’s?Baud 19.2K, Databits 8, Stopbit 1, Parity None, Handshake None, are the suggested settings for menu driven diagnostic of Philips CDR775. Would be grateful for any help available with this. Kind regards

You should seriously consider disabling "hide extensions for known file types" in Windows Explorer, if you value your security at all. There's no shortage of malware disguised with double extensions to exploit this failing of Explorer.

FFcossag, would you chance connecting a 1:10 probe on the DSO and stick it into the mains, being mindful to connect the ground to the neutral? Of course ustilizing an isolated power supply on the scope.

I saw these come up when I was looking at various scopemeter products. I really didn't take them too seriously, especially due to the lack of an enclosure. (Maybe some third party makes one, I don't know and have not looked.) And, well, what can you expect for the price paid? I'm not sure whether to credit or blame them for the complicated nature of the firmware upgrade. On the one hand it makes an "accident" a lot less likely and the upgrade went very well. On the other I don't see casual tinkerers or beginners going through all that and those that do might make a mistake fatal to the 'scope. (Then again, for ~$20, who cares?)
@FFcossag
@FFcossag 8 жыл бұрын
+uxwbill I think the scale tips solely toward "blame". They simply have not been bothered to optimise their code well enough to be able to fit a working USB bootloader into it. The F/W is filling over 50 kB out of the 64 kB flash as is, and USB is a real space hog to program.

I could tell he was Swedish immediately. His accent is actually quite thick. The general pronunciation is fine, but some sounds are a bit off. It's not such a thick accent that the sound and stress is grossly incorrect. For the most part it's fine, but some sounds (i / ee is especially noticeable) are just weird :D The pattern of speech is also Swedish rather than English. Every language has a sort of rhythm to it and you can tell if someone is not following that rhythm.
