Him calling Dark Souls "work" is a little peek into his mind. He doesn't value work; he wants things to be easier and to be praised to high heaven for any small task he completes.

Phil's chat was cheering for him and he went mega toxic on them. He was just mad because they wanted him to change from his cheese guide build to something less optimal.

DSP is so desperate for acknowledgment from others. He needs others to tell him he's great at video games because this is what he's sunk his entire life into being good at. Yet, he still sucks and this acknowledgment will never come.

2:00:20 when he says it's "academic" to get to the third phase, does he not mean it's elementary? Or is this just a turn of phrase I'm unfamiliar with?

No, it’s not a phrase at all, in classic DSP fashion he completely botches an idiom and/or phrase again. Same as when he said “hindsight is 50/50”, Misused rain check and all the other phrases and words he frequently misuses. He doesn’t ever interact with people so he can’t actually learn or correct these common sayings and just butchers them and makes no sense.
