I remember that was watching this game at home with mates and will not forget how we were screeming. After that I never saw so many people on the streets in Varna. We went to the beatch by crossing fingers for Romania vs. Sweden. We were so happy about our guys and victory... I was 21 years old on the beatch and still remember that even 3 days after there were no German tourists on the seasite. Perhaps they were hiding in the hotels.

Это супер матч был! Тогда Германию победить было очень сложно. Они были невероятно сильны. Очень сильное поколение. Действующие чемпионы мира. Но и у Болгарии была лучшая сборная в своей истории. Великолепные голы они забили в этом матче. Если бы Болгария ещё и до финала дошла! Мне, кстати, на том Чемпионате мира были очень симпатичны сборные Болгарии и Румынии. Ну и голландцы. За них я всегда болею. А в финале было жаль Италию. Жаль, что Баджо не забил тот решающий пенальти. Играл он тогда здорово!

For us, Bulgarians, this was more than a football World Cup. Back at the time we were a bankrupted post-coomunist state, overlooked by most of Europe. The populace was depressed and hardly saw much perspective for their own country. And then World Cup USA 94 happened! We saw and the world saw that we still have spirit to overcome seemingly impossible obstacles! Heck, even many of our neighbours in the war-torn Balkans cheered for us! I was small then but still remember the euphoria!

Bulgaria was in WC qualifying group with huge favourite France and beat them. France was top3 team in world at 94-96 (later in 96-00 No1) but finish on 3rd place and didn't qualified. Bulgaria qualified from that group with Sweden. That was big surprise... ... Story didn't finish. Golden cherry on this cake is fact both countries played in semifinal - almost played against each other in final. Bulgaria - Sweden in final??? Probably penalties as well but score after 90min 4-4 or 5-5.

I was luckily enough to be at this game. Working in the USA in the summer of '94 on a BUNAC student exchange. Somehow managed to get a hold of some tickets for this game (can't remember how!) and went along, expecting to enjoy the experience but firmly of the belief that Germany would win. Of course Bulgaria had other ideas and it was brilliant to be present at such a stunning performance and massive world cup upset. Great day!

The greatest surprise of this world cup! I still remember the happiness of Bulgarians when the referee blew the final whistle, and later that day or the next day, their celebration in their hotel.

Like I said many times Stoichkov could turn almost all situations to his favour. It's not easy to defeat Germany; a walled-drilled defence (one of the best) led by Kahn, determined and star-studded with Voeller, Klinsman, you name it. But this Bulgarian squad (probably the best ever by Bulgaria) turned the table against the FIFA favourite Germany. Bulgaria was a real shocker in this tournament and was very unfortunate to make it to the final. This squad with a little bit spirit, motivations and determinations could have won in 1998. It will be a long and winding road for Bulgaria to repeat such amazing performances; skills, creativity and determination. This has been one of the most happiest moment of football I have ever had in my entire World Cup viewings.

Тази нощ никой не спа в България. Децата бяхме навън до късно, хора по улиците, песни, радост. За съжаление сега се радваме на равен с Черна Гора или победа 1:0 над Кипър.

И тази и другите нощи с мачовете на лъвчетата също.. :) а за другото - радвайте им се.. няма лошо.. аз обаче и да искам не мога.. аз си чакам нещо, като през 94та да гледам пак, че да се порадвам отново :) не знам как успяват хората да се радват на мачове като тези от примера ти.. :( то си е чиста скръб...

@@swetlyoo Скръб, болка, срам много думи може да се ползват. Но ако на стадиона сме 40 хиляди когато бием Германия а сме 150 човека когато направим равен с Черна Гора, някак ми е мъчно. На мача с Норвегия заведох сина ми в сектор лъвчета. Още го помни, бихме и беше хубаво. Не като 94-та но беше хубаво.

@@ivanvoinov9898 Съгласен съм, абсолютно! Малко не съм се изказал както трябва, а и тебе явно не съм разбрал точно, ама така е с тоя тип комуникации.. Аз по-скоро имах предвид, като казах за тези мачове скръбните, не тях като срещи конкретно, а че по-времето на такива мачове, като цяло, отбора ни е трагичен.. не за деня, не за мача... Иначе аз съм абсолютно за, без значение срещу кого играе любимия ти отбор, клубен, национален, все едно.. ти ако си Истински фен на играта и на отбора, ще си на стадиона неотлъчно! Без значение дали играем срещу Бразилия или Босна.. лошото е, че са малко истинските фенове и повечето отиват на "по-зрелищните" мачове, а после изведнъж забравят, че той тоя отбор има нужда от вярната си публика абсолютно винаги.. ;)

@@swetlyoo така е, опитвам се и на сина ми да му обясня, че не подкрепяш от ора само когато бие, но и когато пада. Иначе е трудно да гледаш националите сега. Ние имаме 5 "легионера" като имаме играч в трета дивизия на Германия. А преди имахме играч в Байрен Мюнхен.
