Cheap replacement for a Faulty CDI and a bit of info on how to go about it.

Same bike, same problem. The original CDI is scarce or extremely overprized, so I have ordered the 2HR-MO. I hope this will fix the problem! Thank you for sharing!

I own a DT200R 1990, like yours every part is like rocking horse poo. For me most parts are sourced from Greece or australia as there seems to of been alot of 200cc bikes in those countrys

These 2rh-mo seem to be as rare though as the 34x-mo. The only options I can see are quite overpriced and the earlier dt125 cdi has one less cable from what I can make out. I seem to have an inadvertent issue with my same model bike stopping for no reason sometimes after a few minutes of running sometimes after a long time, no spark. Not heat related as I can heat the CDI and still gives spark. I read somewhere that someone else had the same issue, troubleshooted everything and came up with the CDI being at fault, so I wanted to change it out. I have cleaned the carby out multiple times, and troubleshooted everything else. so yeah...

Hi, have you checked the coil? Yes they are becoming rare and the earlier model Dt cdi won't work. While this is a fix and it ran fine I have now replaced it with one from Devmoto. Check out MellowR1 vid of my bike. kzbin.info/www/bejne/anK0oHxjZ5KtndU I agree it's a bit costly, but the value of these DTlc is always going up and its good to keep these "classic's" running..

@@pixel406 I changed the coil multiple times and no change, changed the spark plug cap, changed spark plugs etc.. I'm in Vanuatu, so is as much about just having a running bike. I keep thinking the issue could be just wiring. I had purchased a DT125 cdi, but with the one less wire the red and black ignition off wire seems to do something that an older dt125 coil will not,, even though you can resolder the same coloured wires through (excluding red black)

@@pixel406 I think it may have something to do with like in your example you hit the cdi and it stops working.. I will try this. One of the guys repairing a cdi shows the backboard of a cdi and re-solders every point and remarks this is why cdi's fail, so the intermittent fault could be just old solder joints internally. Diagnosis is just a process, but like you this bike hasn't run in a long time because I haven't been able to troubleshoot it,, nor was the previous owner!!

@@michaelmclennan6144 I had to look up your location, what a great place to live! But I guess bike spares can be an issue! I've just had a look at the wiring diagrams for all three LC models. The mk2 and mk3 have the same colour and number of connections. The mk1 has only 4. So I'm not sure what cdi you have with one less. Unless it's from a Rd125lc and definitely won't work.

@@pixel406 Vanuatu is definitely the other end of the earth, the bike was brought over by a Swiss German guy and maybe 6 years ago it stopped being used when it had an intermittent fault! I have had it for maybe 3. I I think I have the Mk3 bike and same red black combo as yours. the factory oem cdi 34x-mo has the two main connectors and 4 others (black, black/white orange to the coil and red/black) (the red/black goes on testing goes to open closed ignition key circuit). I did try an earlier new DT cdi off ebay but couldn't make it work (it has all correct colours and all wires with the exclusion of the red and black wire which goes to ignition off on closed circuit) I got only very very weak spark from the ht lead with it . I just ran the bike on idle and banged the cdi around, and couldn't seem to replicate a fault with it.... At this stage I guess I'll try run it again and see whether I can again replicate the intermittent fault!!

This is the same problem as mine its piss. A guy on a fb site told me about this cdi a few days ago. Want to give it a try.

Hi I have a dt125lc 1986 model she back fires when started will not rev up for a while then back fires again cuts out she will do this about ten times then she clears and rides fine is this what happened to yours

Hi, yes very similar, no problems for days then bam! would not rev and backfire's. I borrowed a CDI and had no issues.

This is similar to what my bike is doing it’s okay from cold and runs good for 10 seconds or so it’ll idle the same time and do the same thing then it coughs and bogs on the throttle and dies but does backfire if I try kick her back up it was worse with the backfiring but I’m not sure what could cause it
