it's called differences of opinion. you may never like Death Grips. That's fine. But your opinion is based on what you grew up listening to. As a person who grew up listening to both metal and hip-hop, it immediately made sense to me. My girlfriend hates it. A lot of people I know hate it. I fucking LOVE Death Grips. Visceral, intense, dissonant and powerful music to me. And genuine. Extremely genuine and passionate dudes making fucking insane music.

sorry, but actually the piano player is Marco Benevento. Zach makes a point to credit him in his interviews because he improvised it all in one take without hearing the drum track in advance.

He played the piano on the recording he is playing along with. It is off his solo album Astrological Straights. The last song is called necromancer (what he is playing here) and it is 32 minutes of ambience with his drumming over it. It is completely incredible. The whole album rules too!

you guys can follow that ... After we finished the same guys that warned me cheered us , they could understand it's all about the music be it a cheesy 2 minutes pop song or 30 minutes noise symphony .

I am a much bigger fan of Jon Theodore than Thomas Pridgen but I have to defend him here. He didn't ruin The Mars Volta he just changed it. Omar was The Mars Volta and he wanted to explore a different sound so he got a different drummer to go along with it. Pridgen and Theodore played very differently and both suited their respective albums. To think he's terrible is closed minded and silly. You can't get butt hurt whenever artists or bands change. Change is inevitable. Unless you're ACDC.

that he crossed over drumming and made himself known even to people who got nothing to do with beating skins , but that's a bout it. Kapi Rock ! p.s. , by the way here in London I have seen guys playing this style and doing it even better and always got bored with them after 2 minutes, remember playing a gig just after something very similar to Hella , people told me : boy , you have some serious points to make now , we doubt if you guys can follow that ...

@fitchke I made a different account (just to dispel confusion) but you're right to an extent. I love Hella and think he's a great writer, just never been a fan of his solo work. I've never heard necromancer and maybe it's just poor mixing in the video but when I hear hardly any supplementary instrumentation, I do get bored of the drums. I think people (not necessarily you) dickride him a little too much and I think he's great, but not immune to criticism. Just my opinion.

@@danwithcandlefx Thank you! I think this song "Necromancer" performed live is just transcendental. I can't get enough of it. There's only one other full live video performance of Necromancer I could find the quality not being great, and one more as an audio recording. The narrative of 'you have to play as hard as you can to bring your dead sister back to life' is just so powerful to me, and it's best captured through a live performance of Zach playing as hard as he can for 40 minutes. "With all your might. It will sound right." I hope you find it, and anything else you might find I'd love to see!

@typicalday What makes you say that? Millions of people would disagree.. internationally even. That's most certainly not garbage if you ask me. He's playing with more passion than i've ever seen before. You should possibly open your ears, eyes, heart and mind to more abstract, or sometimes challenging ideas. Challenging yourself is good.
@TheCameraCop13 жыл бұрын
@typicalday I understand you're just stating your opinion. But when you call great music garbage, it's inevitably going to be defended at one point or another. This is after all.. the internet. I personally think Danny Carey is one of my favorite drummer. Because he plays with passion. Roddy does not. Playing faster than light doesn't sound good if you're not being dynamic or creative.. It just means you can play fast. Danny Carey hits his drums harder by the way. Zach is simply more aggressive.

most people dont know what they are talking about when it comes to music. everyone thinks thomas is talented because hes fast. but his beats are wack and hes not even that fast.all his drums sound the same and he sticks to the left side of his kit most of the time. i have personally seen him live when i saw TMV and he ruined that band. his first cd Bedlam was TMV's worst album.Omar finally came to his senses when he decided to get zach hill on his new Cryptomnesia album

he ruined the mars volta. they had a perfect discography until until they got rid of Jon(A Great Drummer) and added pridgen.they dont jam anymore because pridgen cant jam an 5 minute song out for over 20 minutes if his life depended on it. He's not a good drummer technically. to anyone with no sense of music talent or a def person he might be good.but its not even that. i cant look at one video of a good drummer on youtube w/o pridgen comming up in conversation.he is a terrible drummer
