Actually its not That normal in Korea for people to hate someone for getting their #1. The big 3 artists constantly won and were very known and loved by many people. Bts was one of the few artists who were from a small company that were able to achieve their #1 so quickly. As of now they have received the most hard ships. Bts was not only treated poorly by the general audience but by radio hosts, directors, talk shows, etc.

BTS is in "not the famous one category" when they debut-2014. Until 2015-2016, they are started in "half famous" category. And started from 2017 until now in "very famous" category

Why did people think that? Because here in Korea, your background is what guarantees your status and success. People look at the agency before the idol themselves. BTS wins first, people see they're from a poor company like Big Hit, and say it's not possible without cheating. Meanwhile, people look at an artist from big three, and already give them the benefit of the doubt that they're gonna be popular and win. It's just how it works in Korea. Your background and status comes first. This ladder of "hard work = popularity/wealth" is almost impossible here, especially for the regular working class. :(

Yes DT, "I need you" was the turning point on their career...at least in Corea, internationally with "BS&T"...I don't think I was the only one who got emotional during this chapter... give me memories of that iconic but also really difficult era for the guys and the fandom, with the success and awards, recognitions comes the hate, non sense accusations and everything in between...I guess I can't admire and thanks enough to Namjoon and the guys for all the hardships they went through but all this was part of their development as human been and artist and form the BTS we have now, I remember back then around march 2015 I meet them and a few weeks after I became Army...what a memories....

Yes, The Most Beautiful Moment in Life (HYYH) was a turning point in their careers - those 3 albums were what made them mainstream Kpop idols in Korea. They got their first music show win for I Need You, which is a really big deal for idols and especially for them at that point because The Most Beautiful Moment in Life pt 1 was their fifth album (which means they had four albums they'd already put out that had never won anything). They also got their first daesang (grand prize, it's the highest award you can get as an idol) for The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever for Album of the Year in 2016. HYYH was just special, I miss that era.

BTS were always megatalented, but they weren't the force they are now. Yes, success comes with hate every time, but it was just much more for BTS. It's hard to explain but there was literally no one on their side. All the newspapers, tv and other media outlets were biased. Everyone wanted big3 groups to win because then everyone would get money. BTS didn't benefit anyone because they didn't have deals with anyone. If you think about all the ways you could find out about an artist, BTS wasn't mentioned there, so it was hard for people to even hear about them. There was a clear system for making stars that would benefit all the corporations that were part of it, and BTS became stars without that system. That pissed off all the companies and so they didn't get any positive media exposure. Obviously the media's perspectives were mirrored into the public, and then there were the fans of the other groups. People genuinely couldn't believe them when they won first place over big3 artists, because some hadn't even heard of them and the big3 artists were hyped everywhere. BTS only had ARMY that were fighting for them and sharing their music and buying albums and streaming and contacting radio stations to play their music. That's why the BTS-ARMY relationship is especially close but it's hard to explain to people that know nothing about kpop.

Love this series and i'm excited to watch more of it from you. Episode 9 had me bawling my eyes out and you'll see why. It's extremely emotional. I'd say the entire "most beautiful moment in life" concert was touching for many people. It holds a very special place in our hearts. I'm so proud of them. Also the reason why people hated on bts so much during their earlier years and accused them of many things is because they were not apart of the big 3.. hence why they talked about it for a brief period. They weren't that well known in the industry and people were shocked that they won 1st place when their famous idol groups did not. It caused jealousy. People couldn't believe that the underdogs were finally being recognized.

Thank you for your reaction. However I don't agree with you when you say hate automatically comes when you reach no1. Groups from the big 3 did not receive hate when they were constantly getting no1 (for years). BTS was a target because they came from a small company. This ep started with a long segment on the influence of the big 3 to highlight that bts reaching no1 went against the consensus that big 3 idols would always win no1. Influence was the key and their label bighit had none. So people (fans of big 3 artists for the majority) and journalists that weve biased towards big 3 did not expected it and tried to break bts. They had already done it before towards other artists. Fortunately, it did not work. Plus bang pd sued them and won.

They held in it all those years and continued to work hard to prove they are truly worth it. Joon eluded to that recently in their festa talk, thanking ARMYs for trying hard to protect them from very organized attacks. That’s why they earned the respect and support from ARMYs getting them to the top.

I mean, Just One Day would have been the first time BTS "strayed from their original look" I guess. And they got some criticism at the time, but they also attracted new fans...those who listened to the music could see they were pretty versatile. But I agree that I Need U Era was a turning point, a drastic shift. The concept was huge and had meat to it. And I agree, it's so cool to see how they haven't really changed fundamentally, they're still the same now as they were back then

It's always so hard to watch documentaries showing the amount of hate and unfairness that the boys got in their early years, but at the same time it's also very satisfying and fulfilling since we all know where they are in the industry now (EVEN BIGGER THAN THE BIG 3). As hard as it is, it's also very important because it's a testament to how hard they've worked in the past and how much suffering they managed to overcome due to the help of their strong will and discipline, their relationship with each other and their company, and of course because of their special bond with ARMY. People specially the skeptic ones tends to judge them by their popularity and songs that they put out now, they don't even bother to get to know them first and just straight away blurt out comments like "they're too overrated" "their songs are too poppy, what's so special about it" "they're just some pretty boys who got teenage girls screaming"...but they're so much more than that, that's why these docuseries are so important because in my opinion it contains the history and records that will otherwise be overlooked if not shown to people.

When I remember right I saw somewhere a vid that "I need you" was kind like there last chance. If they havn`t made it with this song that would have been the end for BTS. Yoongi talked about a performance, I think it was the one where they wore shorts, and Yoongi the sailor outfit. "I was quite sure that this will be our last performance. So I`m going to enjoy it to the fullest" Luckily it wasn`t the end 🙂

My blood was boiling watching the part about chart manipulation. Bts always had and have organic success. The underdog to success story never happened in Korea. They had no big company,no kmedia to hype. They used youtube as their promotional media..Now look at them now.. This is also one of the reasons why Armys are not friends with any other fandoms. That’s correct, BTS and BigHit were literally nothing in the eyes of the South Korean idol music industry, BTS had no seniors to rely on for guidance or support, BigHit barely had any money and the company almost went bankrupt due to BigHit not having a lot of artists due to how small they were and because a previous artist they had got into a scandal, which meant BigHit reputation went down, so no one went to them, so BigHit had less of a chance to create more artists, you get the endless circle. Due to them having no money that meant their training area was so small BTS’ practice room mirror got fogged up from the member’s breathing and they had to wipe it up with newspaper and the company building being small and in a bad neighborhood so the building rooms with the equipment and dance training for BTS regularly got flooded, so BTS had to always scoop out water with buckets. BTS also didn’t have a lot of money for food and put any money they made towards their music videos, art, etc. so their love for food even today could partially be because of how little they had back then. BigHit had no chance of becoming big, BTS had no chance of becoming big, or at least not compared to the groups who people actually knew due to the power of money and face from the big three companies. The big three had so much money and influence through their word due to them being so well known, they had tons of media coverage and had enough influence to keep it that way, just on them. The only people BTS had to support them, and the people which got BTS to where they are today is BTS themselves, BigHit, and ARMY, no one else.

During their earlier days until 2017 (we can fairly say that) they weren't as popular as other big groups like Big Bang and Exo as far as the Korean General public was concerned. Only ARMY were really into their music, they also had a lot of international ARMY by then. Also yes in HYYH they're showing that the teens have now entered their youth. About the music shows almost all big Brodacaters (TV channels namely MBC, KBS, SBS) have their own music shows (weekly) where idols promote songs (sort of a competition) from their new album (usually title and sometimes they also get to perform other 1 song from the album) kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4SueIyVpKxjbKs in this podcast they talk about how hard the music shows are.
