Many good memories from this course. Ole is an amazing teacher

University of Houston, Electrical Engineering student enrolled in ECE 5335 "State Space Control Systems." I came here because I am trying to understand Optimal Control Systems specifically LQR (linear quadratic control). I kept encountering the phrase "normed vector space" so I started my journey to figure out what that means exactly. So here I am learning about Normed Vector Spaces. This is a pretty good lecture. I learned a lot in just 50 minutes.

The name of the book of this course is "Functions, Spaces and Expansions" by Ole Christensen ... enjoy!

Currently finishing off my AM & CS Thesis, found this lecture series so helpful during the whole process and wished I had paid more attention to Real Analysis when I followed the course

I'm just loving this lectures!! I'm an engineer trying to learn mathematics XD and just to understand how mathematicians speak!! I find this topics so abstract in the books...Thanks :)

Agree with Lax, but it is only sufficient to state that W is nonempty. that zero is contained in W then follows since there is some w in W and then 0*v=0 must be in W. Nice lecture btw

Lemma 1.2.7 is not correct. Need to add a second condition, either ask for 0 to be in the subset or ask for the subset to be nonzero. The way it is stated in the lecture allows for null set to be a subspace

This is not a rigorous math course; it's a good primer for analysis, taught by a talented professor, but if you are expecting a graduate-level math course you will be disappointed.

Functions, Spaces, and Expansions, which is a book he wrote himself. Another recommendation would be: Kreyszig - Introductory Functional Analysis with Applications.
