RE: the clear ring vs. the black ring: the black ring may be Neoprene, the clear ring may be urethane. Urethane lasts a few years and then rots just like the old black rubber one you removed. Neoprene would be the best material for the purpose: it does not rot but only eventually hardens somewhat over many years.

Thanks for the info. You might be right. The clear one (from eBay) said it was made of "inert rubber with high UV, temperature and abrasion resistance" It feels like silicone which (I think) should be ok.

Hi. Did you change this tonearm head, or this already came with the turntable? I'm just asking because I have a 1229 with a broken tonearm head. Yours looks different. It's silver with 8 circles holes. Very helpful video btw. Many thanks.

This is the original headshell. This turntable is a later version of the 1229 called the 1229Q. The original 1229 headshell has sort of a grid pattern on the top whereas the 1229Q has the circles.
