Dual applying is when medical students decide to apply to two residency specialties. It is not very common. Dual applying is definitely a personal choice, and you should only do it after giving it a lot of thought! What are your thoughts on dual applying?

Thank you so much for this video. I would like to get your opinion if I could. I realized too late that I was more interested in Gyn Surgery than the whole Ob/Gyn. And for this reason, after having set only Ob/Gyn Sub-Is, I started scheduling other Surgical Electives before graduation. With this being said, I want to dual apply for Ob/Gyn and General Surgery, do you think there would be any problems if I applied to both specialties within the same institution?

So when I dual applied people told me not to dual apply within the same institutions so I didn’t. However, I don’t understand that advice because program directors/chairs of completely different specialties don’t sit around with each other and talk about applicants. Unless the programs are somehow linked, (ie shared faculty in both departments), you should be ok!
