I am currently charging my 2nd deep cycle battery in my truck camper shell with a 100 watt solar panel mounted to the roof, and Renogy solar controller. I run a Dometic fridge and some camp lights with the 2nd battery. I’m finding in winter months the panel isn’t doing the job. Can I simply add this to my system so when driving I’m getting a full charge, and then when I’m parked the solar panel kicks in? Do I need anything extra since I’m already using solar? Maybe I can just ditch the solar panel and controller all together? I only camp a couple days at a time.

I have my solar panel charging wire running to a bus bar from the solar controller. That bus bar then feeds to both batteries but I will be getting an isolator to keep the batteries separate in case one goes bad or to prevent them from draining incorrectly.

You want the isolator to provide the coverage for the load you'll be pulling on the battery. Not necessarily the size of the battery.

I have a question, I plan to install a second battery in my isuzu trooper and I understand this will charge the second battery and disconnect it when the vehicle is shutoff. My question is I have a 100w solar panel and charge controller is it safe to connect the charge controller to the second battery along with this isolator so it would have two sources of charging?

I got the kit and am going to run it in my 2018 yxz1000r utv. And was curious if I could run a slightly smaller atv battery as my secondary for my auxiliaries like stereo and rock lights. Or do they have to both be the same size. Both are 12 volt batteries just different sizes

What happens if I connect the yellow directly to the positive main battery?? My red light turns on as soon as I turn the truck on and it turns off as soon as I turn off the truck. I'm i doing something wrong does it has to be to a switch?

ideally you would want to use 2 isolators so all 3 batteries are isolated from one another. However, you could run 2 batteries auxiliary batteries together in parallel if you wish

So i have one similar to that. My starter battery was dead. I put a car charger on it overnight. I did not disconnect the battery isolator when charging the starter battery. I noticed after the battery was charged that the light on the isolator wont turn off. Did I damage the isolator?

No the yellow is to override the isolator making both connected when the truck is off could be used to jump your vehicle if your main is dead or wire it inside with a led to see when the solenoid is on

If I understand correctly, is the best installation to connect the secondary battery common to the primary battery common? In order to connect the common of my main battery and secondary battery I will need to purchase an additional piece of wire. I will also have to purchase the cable armor and a toggle switch for the yellow override. It would be nice if GWA included or had an option to buy a kit with everything needed.

@@mzerk1021 All you need to do is ground the second battery to a clean chassis ground. Since the battery is going in the bed you can you just grind a small section of paint from the frame rail under the bed. Ground the battery to there. The yellow wire is not required since it's a manual overide to connect the batteries

If the positive lead tying the 2 batteries together is going to be longer then 1ft we recommend fusing with a 100amp fuse

One end goes to the switch the other end goes to ground bud. So that would be a 2 pole switch. That's it, how hard is that to understand? @ 2:40- 2:50. if you can't comprehend that you should NOT be doing any wiring and should take it to a shop that may be better able to help you. hope that helped.
