Part of the damage comes from the magic portion, plus it cost quite a bit of sp to use continuously, so having a bigger reserve should help.

Not from the axe itself, but it's card sockets can be opened up into 4 slots, which you can then load up with 4 zipper bear cards for a 120 attack boost.
