Liquid propane change to vapor propane is dependent on heat transfed via tank. When the tank ices, there is not enough heat transfer to convert liquid propane to vapor propane therefore the gen was starving for fuel near 9 hr mark. In a real application, just change to another tank then alllow first tank to come ambient temperature. Good test. I am wanting a dual fuel. This was very well done. Thanks.

Definitely refilling is a pain for propane, but in a normal trailer you have it anyway. Of course I have friends that just add a dispensing port off their car gas tank for their generators. Still can be messy. Too bad you didn't weight the tank after 2 hours to see what it actually consumed. Nice video.

This has been my dilemma. I have an on-board propane generator, and a small gas generator as well. Filling propane in some states is a PAIN. Some states/locales are easy. I was in Delaware and it took be over an hour-and-a half to find a place and get my tanks filled, but in Utah it was easy. Varies by state. I am thinking of upgrading to this Genmax generator because it is still less than 60 lbs. My Westinghouse is 47 lbs. and runs at 2,200 Watts…the extra 1k Watts would be nice (plus dual fuel option AND electric start). They won’t deliver it to California, so I’d have to get it while out of state. Thanks for the review and test.

Nice demonstration. My only question is why did you run the AC set at 60 degrees. Why not set it at the normal temp you would us it and get a real world results. I'm assuming of course that the AC is able to hold the temp in the trailer at a comfortable level.
@theconnectedcamper
@theconnectedcamper Жыл бұрын
Good question! This AC unit doesn’t have a thermostat, so it is like the cold/hot mix when you set your car temp. I also typically left it at the coldest setting, otherwise when the compressor would shut off it would get super humid inside. Thanks for watching :)

Basically reconfirms what I thought. It's not as cost effective to run on propane. I bought this for a offgrid rv and it won't be here till next week. I specifically got it for the dual fuel combo with the remote. Gas will be my main source but propane is back up because they can sit for years and years. I agree it's also a pain in the butt to get propane filled. There is one place that sells it for 2.79 per gallon but else where is $3.50ish and my closes gas station for 8mile charge $4.50! Employees always seem so bothered when I need propane filled too, especially in the winter. Hopefully this generator is durable because it has all the features I want and it was only $800 on Amazon ($100 off normal price) can't beat the features
@theconnectedcamper
@theconnectedcamper Жыл бұрын
Not as cost effective, but if you don't want to deal with smell or old gas, it may be worth it! Thanks for the reply, I agree with everything you've said. The people responsible for filling these never seem thrilled to be doing it haha I can say it is durable! I have about 200 hours on it with several oil changes done and it is working great. I would suggest running 5w-30 full synthetic oil with a magnetic dipstick if at all possible. Link to magnetic dipstick: a.co/d/9is14NY

I’ve been trying to find an answer to a question on this generator everywhere…. Can you leave the propane open with this generator and remote start it from inside your camper? Most generators on propane won’t allow you to remote start on propane.
@theconnectedcamper
@theconnectedcamper Жыл бұрын
Hey Justin, I set this up and tested this weekend and it worked great. One thing to note is that the first time you start on propane it will need to be primed on the regulator. Basically this just gets the air out of the line and gets the propane into the carb. So that being said, the first time starting it, it should be done with you next to the machine. After that, you should be good to use remote start from within your camper! :) Thanks for the comment!

Great video, especially the long run test and the excel sheet with data. Thank you! I have a Yamaha 2000 inverter gen that I added a propane kit to a few years ago and love it. But I’m thinking about going bigger and this genmax seems to check every box. I especially like the monitoring panel. What are your overall thoughts on quality ? I’ve seen strongly mixed results on this. Of course, that’s not unique to genmax. I set up a champion 2000 gen for a family member and it had loose and cross threaded screws that hold the case and handle together, right out of the box.

Quality for me has been great between the genmax products I've purchased. Other reviewers mention some issues, but if you buy from Amazon you can get a pretty good return/refund policy. I have over 100 hours on my 3500 and it has been great. Break it in properly, have a magnetic dipstick, and keep old gas out of the carb and you should be in good shape! Since the tank is building up an ice ring near the bottom, would it help to place the tank near the exhaust end of the Genmax so the heated exhaust warms the tank and melts the ice ? When I worked for a TELCO, we used propane fueled utility trailers and the tanks were near the front of the trailer radiator. Some had "insulated blankets " to protect the tanks on cold days.
@theconnectedcamper
@theconnectedcamper Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t actually recommend having the tanks any closer to the generator. The ice buildup is normal when tanks are being discharged quickly. This video was taken when it was about 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit outside.

@theconnectedcamper
@theconnectedcamper Жыл бұрын
To restart after it has been running, yes it does work. The problem is propane does need to be primed when starting to purge air from the lines. Priming can only be done on the regulator on the generator, so remote start probably wouldn’t work. Thanks for watching :)

I read a review about changing oil may tip the gas out. Is that your experience?
@theconnectedcamper
@theconnectedcamper Жыл бұрын
I always have the gen as low on gas as possible before an oil change. I can see how if the tank was full, the overflow would have it leak out through the carbon filter and likely have it run poorly as well as leak gasoline on the group. Long story short, change the oil with the gas as low as possible, this will help prevent spills.

@theconnectedcamper
@theconnectedcamper Жыл бұрын
hmm the problem you're running into is a double regulator scenario. You have the regulator on your camper that will set the pressure, then the regulator on the generator that isn't getting the expected pressure. I would suggest just connecting directly to tanks.

Propane generators need two regulators, one to limit pressure and one to limit flow. If it stalls without the second, gas will just keep flowing. BBQ only regulators expect you to stop the flow manually when turning off.
