After the disappointment of the GoT finale, I needed this show. This series is now one of my ultimate favorites. I love it a lot and they chose the perfect person to play Ye Xiu (Yang Yang). I absolutely love the live action adaptation on Netflix. I can’t wait for season 2 (praying there is a season 2). Very beautifully done and told.

I haven’t seen GoT, but I know through internet rants that the entire last season consisted of the main cast breaking character to “subvert expectations” for a split second of audience shock. Not the good kind of shock, but the kind that makes you go “wait... what?” Instead of giving their characters happy/fulfilling endings, the GoT writers decided to make a painfully unsatisfying “plot twist.” But in my mind, that’s still leagues ahead of what happened in this dumpster fire of a show. Remember in the beginning of the season when the spear girl was like “I’m better and more competitive than everyone else,” and got her ass handed to her by the god of glory himself? That should have shown some from of character flaw, and in the next 30 or so episodes, she should have learned humility in the face of enormous hurdles so that she could learn from her mistakes. Instead, she remains a prideful, mid-tier player, boasting that she could “take down at least three people” against a high ranking pro team. When she barely gets one person down to half health, that was a huge letdown for her, and they had an opportunity to fix her character right then and there. But then she does it again and again, never really fixing the problem, even going so far as to challenging the captain of excellent era in practically a 1v1 using his own move against him, causing team happy to have an unwinnable game. When team happy ended the final game behind in points, I was ecstatic. This was about to be this arc where the heroes face their darkest hour, where they have an immense amount of character growth in order to rise up again. Instead, they yada yadad the rulebook to say that ye xiu broke the damage record, giving them 2 extra points. Instead of a crushing defeat for team happy and a bittersweet victory for excellent era, setting up a situation where both sides have a chance for character development, excellent era goes home feeling cheated, team happy has that moment of “oh we won? Neat!” And the audience is left feeling like ye xiu is just being weighed down by random players that were picked up two months ago and are only winning because they’re getting carried. That’s another huge problem with the story, it’s not sure whether it wants to focus on team happy’s growth and development with its players, or if it wants to focus on ye xiu being the god of glory, single handedly taking on the world. Out of game, it seems to want to focus on the inexperienced players, with ye xiu saying those cliche things like “oh I couldn’t be here without them” and “they are the future of glory.” The only problem is, the show does nothing else outside of that to promote this belief. The character growth is pitiful outside of yifan, the old mage guy, and the cafe owner. Remember when that healer didn’t want to (or maybe didn’t know how to) cast a debuff removal? Remember the launcher guy who cheated by having a rat spy on team happy? Neither does the show. I’m sure there are other characters, but they’re painfully forgettable. The main offender of this is the main character, ye xiu himself. He starts the show as a tragic hero, the best player in glory kicked out of the team he created by a friend he thought he could trust. At the end, he’s the “leader” of a group of randoms that he gathered together by means of extortion, blackmail, and other underhanded methods. Remember when he got that one guy fired and stalked him for a good couple of episodes just to get a random bottom feeder onto his team? Remember what his role was? Didn’t think so. In the beginning of the show, he’s overconfident, cocky and arrogant in his skills, and his communication levels with his team was non-existent at best. By the end of the show, he’s still cocky and arrogant, and clearly he hasn’t cast even a gaze at the rest of his team, since he just sends the old mage guy to practically babysit the team while he fights alone. Yifan was practically the only team member to get a proper hero’s journey in the show. He starts from humble beginnings, a simple waterboy and the weakest member of tiny herb. Because of this, he is bullied and used by his peers, giving him an incredible lack of self confidence in his own skills. He gets scouted out by the lord grim account after being told to switch to a more supporting oriented ghostblade, and quickly adds lord grim. While raiding with lord grim and his party, he feels like he’s making a difference with his new class, which gives him a much needed ego boost and a definitive switch to the ghostblade. During the rookie showoff episodes, however, he lets this new ego get ahead of himself, and he challenges the number one ghostblader in order to test his skills. Understandably, he gets styled on, causing him to immediately relapse back into his angsty state, where he’s saved by ye xiu. Slowly this time, he continues to practice and fight with the rest of team happy, occasionally showing off his skills and generally being a good support for everyone else. And that’s where his arc ended, it wasn’t the most exciting arc, but it still encapsulated everything that a good supporting character should have. An easily digestible backstory and a non-intrusive plot line to introduce this character with the main character. He’ll have some sort of character flaw, and that flaw will be his tragic undoing from which the main character will have to save them from. And from there they’ll pick themselves up and rejoin the main character’s side. Unfortunately, yifan was the only character to have his own arc, which is pretty depressing. The characters of this show feel as if a camera crew ran around filming cardboard cutouts Truman show style, with a few exceptions. For the first half of the show, guo guo acted like an alien trying to fit in with her fellow earthlings and I’m pretty sure ye xiu is a reptilian. I could rant about the plot, and the actual balance of the game glory itself, but I can’t honestly be bothered. TL:DR GoT had well written characters till the last arc, KA never had that to begin with.

First of all this song makes me cry everytime I heard it, I remember ye xiu when he is sad. I want to comfort him but I can't. :D Second I like the voice of this singer, she is so emotional and I feel it. Third, this series is what I've been waiting for. I would like to thank for those who made an effort to create / release a Live Action of King's Avatar. Fourth I really love it and I mean it. From series to theme songs, subtitles, characters, graphics and even the original story. ♥

Short summary of the lyrics, I find it quite sweet; the first few lines are about how an old sweatshirt is like an umbrella that shields from the weather, how a bowl of instant ramen would even be split between them, and later on talks of how they could always tell when they felt down. The rest of the lines are about their love for this special person and how precious they are in their heart, how time spent with them both flies and lasts forever; I just think it's nice how even such mundane things could cause the singer to sing of love in this way. (no way I'm translating all the lyrics i don't have the time for it)
