Just seeing this now, a month or so late. I have both as well and would have loved one of these videos before acquiring the 30. Great video, as always. I would also add that my 35 feels a little more stiff and less lively than the 30, but that's probably due to the airiness and the trapeze that loosens things up. I initially used 11s on my 35 and got a fantastic jazz tone. My 30 came setup for 10s and I never looked back. In fact, I changed the 35's strings to 10 after that and I'm very pleased with the results.

Man thank you so much, beautiful guitars + you got so much feeling and precision in your playing, that was really pleasant to watch.

Nice playing and that rare thing on you tube demo’s, concentrating on how the instrument sounds rather than showing off! Thankyou for that.

Holy moly, forget the gear, you’re such an amazing player! I really Like both and I can totally see why one would own both. I like 330 if I want it more acoustic / fendery , and 335 for something just a little richer in a good way.

Wondering if you still consider the i35 your number one or does the i30 challenge that preference. I just played both a few weeks ago and I am torn but leaning toward the i30. Would love both but it’s a stretch to afford even one.

First, thank you for the post. I’ve been playing guitar for a long time, but I’m not a Professional. My mom just past away and I have a little scratch (…after I sell some other equipment) to buy a really nice guitar. Collings would be the upper range, and these two models the choices. After a few years, which do you prefer? Is the Hum on the I30 ever too much? Which cuts through the band the best? I play mostly Classic Rock, and Blues. The Band, Eagles, Allman Brothers, Beatles, Motown, straight up Blues, Elvis Costello, Leonard Cohen, etc. I tend to prefer a slightly overdriven Amp Tone that can be cleaned up with the volume at the guitar. Occasionally, I will hit the sound with some Fuzz, but mostly (90%) playing clean-with-character. Turning up at the guitar for solos. Reverb, Tremelo, and Delay.

Does the i-30 has ability to produce warm and liquid modern jazz sound like for example kurt rosenwinkel? I want lightweight jazz guitar but i dont want to sound only like from 50s

Greetings and Happy New Year! I’m a rusty crusty blues player and I like harmonic overtone sustain/feedback that an ES-335 is capable of. I’m looking for dynamic pick attack but also can growl with aggressive bite. Presently, there are no shops that stock these instrument for a test drive where I live, so your input would be appreciated. Great demonstrations with your professional presentation.

Thanks for this review. I thought this i35 looked smaller than a 335. Would you say that it’s the same size as the 339?
@duanebroberg3 жыл бұрын
The I35 is a 15 inch guitar, which is between a 335 (16 inch) and a 339 (14 inch).

Thanks so much for making this video. I am discovering these in the reverse order. I just got a Collings I-30 W/Thoback P90's and it is blowing me away so much I started looking at the I-35LC. (probably w/Throbaks since the P90's are so exceptional) What do you prefer and play more? I-35LC or I-30LC? Do you have any thoughts about Lollars versus Throbaks? Thank you for the great video.
@duanebroberg3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for listening Gary. I have enjoyed many of your videos as well. I love all of my Collings, but must say that my I-35LC is my favorite. I think that once you break the guitars in, they definitely lose some stiffness. My Collings always loosen up after playing them for a bit. I actually prefer Lollar pickups actually. I paid extra for the Throbaks in my Solo 16LC, and even though they are great pickups, I think that I still prefer the Lollars. The Throbaks seem kind of bright to me, and the Lollars seem a little warmer, which is what I prefer. Cheers!
@gair19443 жыл бұрын
@@duanebroberg Thanks Duane! I am surprised the Lollar are warmer. Are yours Imperials or Imperial Low winds? Sound great either way. I continue to be amazed at the playability of the Collings. It is so inspiring. Thanks for enjoying my videos too. The respect is mutual sir!

Hi Duane, If it’s only for jazz, do you prefer I35 over I30? How is the weight difference between these two? Thanks 🙏🏻

is that slight metallic echo just the nature of the room you are in?
@duanebroberg3 жыл бұрын
Yes I can hear that too. Not sure what that is. It has nothing to do with the guitars. I probably need to redo this video again sometime soon.

Duane Allen Music I think it’s the microphone at the back of your cellphone, try letting it hang to the side of your music stand so it doesn’t echo with the back of the stand
