Yes I remember at the time I filmed this the hotel I stayed in was full of Kuwaiti refugee families - some people called them the richest refugees in history. I'm going back to UAE shortly to take video of the exact locations I filmed two years later in 1994 to contrast the past with the present. It's all previously unseen video from 1994 and I think the difference you will see between the two will be astonishing. Coming this year....

@Hotshotter30006 жыл бұрын
+ED 23 Well here's the nutshell version. This is the year that the Dubai Shopping Festival really got big. The neighborhood where I was living in was practically rebuilt (the streets, the storefronts, everything) changed dramatically, and Dubai started to look more like that until I left in 2007. I'm pretty damn sure that 2009 was another major milestone year since it was when the metro finally opened and public transport became worth something. Of course I wouldn't know for sure since, as I said, I left in 2007. I should mention that prior to that, the bus system in Dubai was not worth a damn. I hated every single second of it. It was slow, spotty, and extremely unreliable. The traffic was so insane it was actually quicker to walk a kilometer or two than it was to take the bus that distance.
