Dubai Millennium wins the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Ascot

Dubai Millenium's win here is one of the greatest in the history of flat racing. And any of the great champions of the past or present would have been hard pressed to beat him on this day. A good many great champions ran races where you have the feeling that nothing would have beaten him or her that day. This was certainly one in my opinion.

Found an article about this race on-line. Dettori was out from plane crash injuries so Jerry Bailey rode Dubai Millennium. Bailey said::"He had the ability to run at a high speed & run other horses into the ground, but still have enough left to hold off any closer. That translates into a great horse. Cigar did that & Skip Away did that and he's just as good both." It also said if Dubai Millennium hadn't broken his leg he would've run in the 2000 BC Classic against Tiznow & Giant's Causeway.

@G B , Disagree in that he might've beaten him, but I don't believe he would've beaten Dubai Millennium soundly. He might've whiskered him, but nobody beat DM soundly. As it was, Tiznow, a great dirt horse in his own right, had his hands full in the 2000 Classic with the iron horse from Ireland, Giant's Causeway. Who, lest we forget, was making his first and only career start on conventional dirt in the Classic that day. The way Tiznow & Giant's Causeway dueled through the stretch might've opened up the finish perfectly for DM to have swept through to victory, or a battle between DM & Tiznow might've been just what Giant's Causeway needed. It's hard to say for sure, and most of this is just pure speculation, but I suspect had DM been in the field that day it's as likely as not we would've seen a 3-horse battle royal all the way past the post instead of a 2-horse one, IMO.

@G B , and for the record, he didn't beat the Arc winner Sakhee soundly either at Belmont in 2001. Had to battle him all the way to the wire too, and just like he'd done with Giant's Causeway in 2000 at Churchill Downs, barely got his nose across the wire first. Still a great win by a great horse, but Tiznow hardly won either Classic what would be considerd soundly.

Yaazer aka Dubai Millennium - Timeform 140 - an absolute wrecking machine and the 2nd/3rd best we've seen this century. On form figures, he was just slightly better than Cirrus Des Aigles when he raced Frankel in the Champion Stakes. But Frankel still would have cruised up to him and beat him any amount because on good to firm, Frankel was about 2 lengths better so would have put daylight between himself and Dubai Millennium in the 2000 Prince of Wales. A much more competitive comparison of Champions would have been Sea The Stars and Dubai Millennium. On all known form, Dubai Millennium would have been hard for Sea The Stars to reel in. Maybe he'd have went down a length. But that's only on what we've seen. Daylami produced a better visual performance than Sea The Stars when he won his Irish Champion, but there's no doubt bookmakers would make Sea The Stars the favourite if they where to meet in a match-race. It's my opinion that Sea The Stars would have at least ranged up alongside Dubai Millennium, then a test of heart would have been given to both colts. On this particular day in 2000, Dubai Millennium was in beast mode. Sendawar was coming into the race off an impressive performance in the Prix d'Ispahan and was completely broken by a freak of nature. On this day, maybe he'd have caught many a great champion off guard, but Frankel and Sea The Stars are two colts who would have ran to their rating. Dubai millennium is one of the best horses I have seen in my lifetime. Sea the stars was also great, although he won over 8f and 10f, in my opinion he his optimum trip was 12f. Therefore over 8 - 10 f Dubai millennium would have his measure. Frankel however is another story, he has the same optimum distance as Dubai millennium, it is too difficult to determine whether or not who would triumph. Ratings do not necessarily mean the highest is the best, in theory yes but it all depends on conditions, distance and the course. I personally wouldn't like to choose who is better. I love them both, however I have a soft spot for Dubai Millennium.

He would've Destroyed All in that 2000 BC Classic pulling away too. So sad how his life ended, such an Amazing horse. I won alot of $$$ from all his races....the most from the 2000 World Cup in Dubai.

I do get what you mean yeah mate. Grundy v Bustino was the last probably on record. But on official ratings I suppose Cirrus is officially the 2nd best in the world. so officially it was 1st v 2nd. But I prefer to think Black Caviar is the current number 2 haha

Fabulous horse. I remember buying my ticket specifically to see this horse at Ascot, and I wasn't disappointed! Easily the best horse of his generation (Epsom was a shame, he could have done so much better were his head in the right place). Would he beat Frankel? Both have a high cruising speed that crushes opponents from the start, and would definitely be one of the few horses to give Frankel a proper race!

Yes he has mate. We send over the horses just a below our top to USA. As the top ones go for the Arc weekend and Champions day. Other than Coolmore, many are reluctant to go for more than that at the end of a long season. He's beat two, 5 time G1 winners. What more do you want? he beat a horse that comfortably beat Goldikova. he beat the 2nd highest rated horse in the world travelling easy til a furlong out. There is only 1 other legend in training in the world, Black Caviar, from Aus, not USA.

@MrStevenwilliam He was a machine but he was well short of Frankel. I saw DM run twice and it was certainly impressive......but Frankel is from another planet. He moves differently to any other horse you have ever seen and whilst no horse is unbeatable, at his best, I have not heard a horse's name who might lower his colours.

@truth seeker I think you need to check your facts. DM ran once over 12f and finished 7th. Frankel won over 10.5f, further than any distance DM managed to win over. If you want to see how to win a race from the front watch Frankel's 2000 Guineas. And finally, Frankel did not try to win the St James Palace stakes from the front but he did win the race by 3/4l which is hardly nearly getting beat. DM was a truly great horse but not as good as Frankel.

This horse is so overated , never beat anything of note and his win in the Dubai cup means nothing -may as well have thrown in horses from a Brighton handicap they would have been just as good as the horses he beat , failed miserably in the race that mattered most -The Derby

Tony he beat the best undefeated 1m horse so they said in europe in this video ( wasnt even fav in this race ) if i remember right ? Broke the track record for world cup win AW !!! Was that good stepped up from 10f undefeated 8/8 to risk taking on worlds hardest 12f race (derby) . Sounds like your a frankel man thats fine but frankel never took risk stayed same tracks same going only stepped up distance last race i think ? Didnt try the derby didnt step outside uk didnt even run great times never broke any records 🤤

Sendawar was a top class horse.. also how many offspring did he have? 30 odd? Out of a tiny batch he produced Dubawi, who is top 5 turf stallion in the world.
