Was really hoping to see him link all of those adapters together to form a super long and ridiculous adaption contraption.

These adapters are quite useful when you want to convert existing light fittings to 12 or 24v to run on solar/wind power. It's difficult to obtain 12 or 24v (LED or otherwise) lamps with BC, ES or GU(Z)10 caps. So the easiest solution if you want to run a decorative light fitting or luminaire from a lower voltage is to use adapters such as the ones shown in your video. If they are ran on extra low voltage < 36v they pose no risk of electrocution. However they should have some form of rating stamped on them to prevent improper use.

Even so, quite dangerous and unwieldy piece of kit.

Bipin CFL to medium screw lamp adapters were sold as part of energy saving retrofit kits years ago. The kit also included a lamp and a plug in ballast into which the fixture was plugged.

I think you should read up on your sockets a bit. One of the 2-pins was a G9, which certainly is used for 230V. The other one probably was a GU4 which is the one with the thicker pins for 230V and not the G4 with the thinner pins for 12V you were thinking about. Those G23/G24/etc adapters are useful, too. There are plenty of unballasted lamps that use those fittings, e.g. for directional growth lamps where an E27 would not be practical.

John, surely as a mere technicality your BC-ES is also a tad dangerous...due to the unpolarised nature of the BC connector, the outer edge of the ES would become live where it should be neutral. Regards, Loz P

They are people out there, commonly In the states that have taken their houses completely off grid and have converted their lighting circuits to be 12V. So I can just see those people using the bayonet or screw fitting to the what we call the MR16 bases in that case, But like you said, I can also see any normal person not knowing and putting a 12V halogen in a 240V supply, very dangerous.
@thecow27568 жыл бұрын
all those are only DIFFERENT SOCKETS because those "12 volt" devices have their 240 volt counterparts that has always been the case with these also the socket you call "ballasted" the ballast is in the lamp not in the lamp socket part of the lamp holder and they get 240 volts in atleast in northern europe this is the case with all of these and these are meant only for northern part of europe not in east europe the standards differ in different parts of europe and i dont mean to be offensive at all so im sorry if you feel that im offensive towards you

In the USA miniature cabinet lights are frequently 120v, gu8 or gu10.
@BenjaminEsposti8 жыл бұрын
+Robert Szasz Yeah, I've seen both 12V and 120V under-cabinet lighting... These adaptors aren't really stupid. They're designed to do what they are meant to do. Only an idiot would plug a 12V bulb into a 120V (or 240V) socket XD

Did you not considered reversed polarity on the BC22 - ES lamp holder?

@acat68219 жыл бұрын
just because there is a normal voltage for a normal light fitting... doesnt mean you cant run a gu10 fitting on 12v? or a pendant on 12v? its a an adapter exactly that if you need one for what ever reason you can have one does not mean there pointless

the 2 pins compact fluorescent will kill itself without ballast the 4 pins compact fluorescent will not even starts without starter

The compact lamps works with 230 Volt! No problem also to use Edison 27 socket inside this.

I recently watched a video where David savery used the gu10 - mr16 to convert some outside lighting from 240 to a more sensible low voltage led using the adapter

3:29 Compact Lamps e.g. from Phillips socket G23/G24/2G11 - Many shops use this type of lamp for light the place. Not many installations inside customer houses, so do you possible not know.

Lol that looks like someone has just been like 'yeah lets adapt this to this' without any idea of what the various plug types are designed for.

Don't really like those adapters for edison-> bayonet, for obvious reason Edison is designed that the easily touchable screw part is neutral, and the central pin is live. The adapters defeat that protection. It's really annoying how hard it is to find the Edison pendants.

Well,to be honest... you are not totally correct here... Many lights use these fittings indead for 240V but... in my little van (like a camper-van) the same kind of fittings are used for: 12 Volt or 24 Volt lights! Yes, a bit strange but they excist! I was surprised with that when I found out thinking I needed a 240 Volt lightbulb or energy-safer lamp but no: energy-safer-lamp at 12 Volt and you can fit in (with such adapter) a single halogen-light instead of the energy-safer-lamp or a tungsten-lamp which all use the same screw or bajonet-fitting. Actually, I needed to replace the fittings to 'normal 230 Volt fittings' in my van at some place because only the bulbs for 12 Volts for that fitting was available and not the special fitting for the old fitting. So yes, you need to stay carefull which lights you put inside the fittings all the time!

Some of those might be really useful, if you are running a DIY off-the-grid solar power system.

The problem is that in other countries, ships and cars the people use this different sockets with different power between 6 till 240 V, 30 till 60 Hz, 0.5 till 6 A. So the market produce adapter, sometimes only something wrong of them. It is hard understand for culture countries e.g. UK, Germany, and so on.
@dasy2k15 жыл бұрын
The only one that was actually useful was the e27 to those 2 elongated sockets which while it did appear to fit a G4 lamp is actually for G9 halogen capsules which are normally mains voltage

It's not stupid or poorly designed, it's the users who plug a 12V bulb into 240V that are stupid and poorly designed -_-

I dont wonder why so many fires are start in resdidential. Most things people can by are waste. I have some more good ideas for adaptors. A power cord whith two BS 1363 plugs. One one each side. Or one side a BS 1363 plug and on the other side a klinke 6,3mm ; ) If i make politics it is imposible to ship waste like you schown in some vidios into our countrys!
