Sarah's voice is much nicer with depth and skill, but you can't beat the original. Moira had a young vibrant sound to her voice though very simple delivery

The song was written and performed ("After the Goldrush" album) by Neil Young. St Etienne has offered different arrangements in their live performances. This performance differs from the recorded version by St Etienne. Much of the debate/discussion here is rather silly IMOP.

@@stoniemcfc Let's be real. It wasn't Moira's vocal prowess (or lack there of) that made that song a hit. Anyone could have sang it and the results would've been the same. Nothing against Moira but she ain't Cilla Black. I'm sure the vocals were done in one take. I love the song, but the vocals were not the main attraction.

@@davepalese5170 I think the exact opposite. I felt Moira‘s vocals were on point + I really feel her emotions while she‘s singing. Even the lyrics fit her style of singing: kind of bored but still high and low pitch and on beat every line.

Well...no, not really. The band were originally going to use numerous singers and Lambert was one of them, but after hearing Sarah Cracknell, they made her the permanent singer, which she has been since 1991.
