With news of the roof literally falling in on the Iveagh Markets, hitting the press this week. We took to the streets of Dublin to ask locals what they think of the misuse of this iconic space.
In December last year, Dublin City Council announced €9 million in funding to provide essential conservation works for the Market, but campaigners are now questioning how many reports need to be carried out before work starts to save and preserve the space.
According to DCC a two-stage plan is scheduled to get underway this month after a number of surveys are carried out on the building, but Friends of the Iveagh Markets are demanding a solution must be found at once to prevent further water damage to the now derelict market.
What would you like to see done with the Iveagh Markets? Do you believe Dublin should have a dedicated market space, especially when historic, purpose-built buildings like this exist? Let us know in the comments.
