You made it very easy to understand. Without ever having used any programs like this, I was able to watch your video (while following along), and figure out the operator device. After playing with it for a while I found my ideal filthy bass I was looking for.

@Murkling that really just depends on what youre trying to do. i use the m-audio axiom25 which have a 25 key keyboard plus 8 programmable knobs and trigger pads. it works great for me. Akai i know also has great controllers. If youre looking to do more live producing, the novation launchpad is the way to go

@unku - For the Lemur patch im using a single slider to change rate of the wobble, not buttons. With the Lemur you can set up grid points on the slider which lock in to specific points on slider.Here i have grid points set up to lock in on specific rates-1/16,1/12,1/8...it would be tricky to set up using buttons with vanilla Live, you'd have to set up each button to send out the same cc number but each would have a different value. something like max for live would help out with this.-MIchael

Operator is AWESOME to make sweet basses. Im soo in love with it, its taken over Zebra at this point (and Zebra aint no bullshit). BUT Nobody wobbles much anymore. Its a played out technique. Try apped basses, twisting up arpeggios to create the wobble timing feel, but not with the lfo'd sillyness. And of course, if youre that talented, you can mix lfo with arpeggios, but I've found it to be too little correlation in one sound.

You can Click+Hold the "knob" in Ableton and while the song is playing just move it back and forth. Typically wobbles follow a "beat" pattern so the best thing to do is edit the wobbles (1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 etc..) as enveloples either in the "clip" or on the arrangement view. if you want more help send me a msg

Great video man, love all this stuff, and I'm probably going to be physically attending your school soon! One question though: at the end of the video, you held down the "clip stop" button on your APC, and got it to repeat a short segment of the bar. I also have an APC, and I;m curious what and how you mapped that. Thanks in advance for anyone who could answer this!

@ColtSk8sLife i'm running Ableton 8 on an mac. i am pretty sure you can get the very basic ableton package for around 400 bones. it's a stripped down version. The standard version is a bit more and then the suite was like 800. If you're thinking of buying i'd go for at least the standard because i think the low end pack is missing some of the cooler plugins like corpus and what not. it's fun like space travel.

@DubSpot Yeah, I know. I wasn't asking, I was letting the people know what else is out there thats like Lemur. :) Personally, I refuse to support Apple, so I'll wait for an Android Tab. Right now, I'm using There'sa for WinMo to control Ableton. Not exactly full featured and looks very retro, but it works, for now.
@johnnytluxury14 жыл бұрын
@DJDavverMusic Let it be known, you can get the same type control with an iPad, at a much lower price (and more functionality). Griid and touchAble should be available at the App Store now, and are quite wicked without the crazy price point of the Lemur.

Ok I'm coming from Reason cause I just couldn't figure out Ableton Live before. The only synths I was making was with the other tutorial where you use Simpler and that pre-made wave. Boooriiing. Figured I'd give it another try (cause I REALLY wanna use this program) and see how to make CUSTOM synths, like I do in Reason with Thor. I was beginning to think I'd need to buy a VST. I'm not even done with this video yet, I had to pause it to comment because I couldn't stop saying "This is SO cool!"
@johnnytluxury14 жыл бұрын
You're probably playing the wrong note, the default sound is a simple sine wave. Doesnt matter if you're using a computer keyboard or midi controller (controllers dont send sound, they just tell the instrument what note to play.) Use Z to move the notes downwards, X to move notes upwards.

Also, dont be content with using just Operator, rack that bitch!! Rack it and split the freqs three way, then add spice to each of the freqs. Try an Operator, rack then add an effects rack. Split freqs with eight way EQ (Hi, Mid, Low), then slow wob or change the filter res of the mid, saturate the hi, then compress the whole joint for cohesion. Or throw the Saturator before you split freqs for some weirdness! Dont forget chorus, delay (comb filter effects!) I LOVE Ableton!

i understand how to map to a controller. but i'm curious to know how one can map lfo rate to multiple buttons on a midi controller other than a lemur in order to do what is shown on the lemur: i.e., different buttons for the different sync rates. it seems that ableton allows a parameter only one mapping...so this leads me to believe that lemur's software allows different values of a parameter to be spread out on the screen and represented by several different buttons.

Hey Mike, I had a quick question I'm fairly new to ableton but am learning fast. I'm using massive to make my sounds and I get the wobble just how i like it and i go to put it in the track in ableton and it sounds slow and really bad. Do you know what I've done wrong or what settings I need to change? Thanks.
@sinisterstanzas13 жыл бұрын
if you dont have operator, you can also just use a square synth.

The default sound from operator sounds totally different on my mac (much less bass). I didn't change any settings. I am using my standard keyboard to create the sounds, no MIDI-keyboard, is that why it sounds so different?

So im starting to get serious about this. But I have a question, what would be the best Midi Controller to buy?
@laggan13 жыл бұрын
@DubSpot But in my experience you can't map the same digital knob to more then one midi-key. I'm guessing thats the problem @thedrill255 is having also?
@jonahblock14 жыл бұрын
this is a great tutorial but just like with part one my sound just comes out different. the initial tone of the operator just starts off cleaner . what could be causing the difference? if you need to know I'm using an AKAI MPKmini
