I agree. Every time you look up fragrances and reviews the usual come out: Calvin Klein, 1 million, Dior sauvage, invictus, phantom, Bleu Chanel, Eros, etc im more into niche, classics, hard to find, hidden treasures, and underrated fragrances

Kelan, wasn’t sure where to put this and I’ve gotta get it out of my head - every time I smell Al Haramain's Sheikh I think of this specific review, which was the reason I decided to buy my now beloved Duc de Vervins. I highly recommend you give it a whirl. It’s inexpensive, the bottle is so ugly it rules, and to my nose it smells like DDV but with a minty fresh opening. I love it and would love to know what you think.

Great review. I got it today, and so far, smells amazing. Did you notice the atomizer wasn’t fully flush? It feels like it’s not properly placed. The sprayer is so so.

I just purchased the limited edition bottle which is the edt original with modern bottle and without the plastic gold which I’ve always wondered how come they haven’t done something to that bottle yet 😂. It’s outdated but yes unique and the emerald and gold is a sign of power like in a social class. Polo/Hampton/elite/royals anyone? Anyway I always wanted to see a modern rendition and I accidentally came across your video while learning about the limited edition looking up houbigant. Can’t wait to receive it. I did have the “Edition Limitè” as I believe it was called, and I didn’t really notice much of a difference between the scent and the bottle I didn’t think was as nice as the original look, I had it for a bit and then sold it on my Mercari page, either way love the scent ! This has been reformulated by Dana, who has reformulated other Houbigant scents. I'm not sure how good the reformulations are though. Luckily you showed the back of your box and it is the version I have. I got 2 more back up bottles in the black friday sale, which haven't been sprayed. I may order the reformulated bottle amazon, are half the price as this is hard to find in the UK and quite expensive. Around £120.00

Yes I actually had it for a while, it’s essentially the same thing in a slightly different bottle style without the gold wrap around. It didn’t smell that different at all really and it was not something I’d buy again. I sold it off. So I wouldn’t waste my money unless it was a great price. I forgot about it completely until this comment actually lol

I have the original and love it so ordered the extreme today. Excited to see the difference. I too bought a git set from fragrancex and it smelled sour. I cant sent it back as I’m in U.K.

You know that is funny you said that about the gift set ! The first time I ever bought Duc de Vervins was off an eBay seller and it was the gift set with the body wash and when I received it I immediately knew something was off and it was hands down sour both the fragrance and the body wash had gone bad, thankfully it was eBay and I was able to return it for a full refund and then just purchased the scents individually. I think those gift sets are much older stock and not made anymore so they definitely are way higher risk of being sour

@@ScentsOfSouthJersey i emailed fragrancex saying they ought to check their stock and batch codes but that it must be difficult with the sets because they are sealed. They instantly apologised and sent me a return label, I’m impressed with their service. I will only buy individual bottles as you have from now on. Weird i have fragrances almost 10 years old that are fine. We live and learn. Oh and the body wash was very weak too.

@@beavisbonce yeah usually gift sets are the way to go in my opinion because you get more for your money and I love to match the other same scented products to the cologne. but in this case with this scent it was definitely sour

Im looking for a loamy oakmoss scent with the middle and base projecting strong moss. Like that metalic earthy scent you get when yoy overturn soil..or in a shopping mall near the water fountains theres a loamy musty moss scent. Will this frag perform this way or could you.suggest one as i described? Would really appreciate your advice. Thanks.

I initially got them from fragrancenet both the original and the L’Extreme version about two years ago but they both were around 50$ the price from fragrancenet on the L’Extreme has gone up a lot. Maybe check eBay.

Man and I grew up with this fragrance and many others from the 70s -80’s because of my dad and grandfather and I used to love sneaking in dads closet and smelling and wearing fragrances and as older I never saw DV amazing of course as I was getting into many other fragrances and still young but I ended up falling for Houbigant at Neiman Marcus when I came across their orientale new line cologne, fougere Royal and Bois mystique, and buying their entire line and men line and to my surprise I see DV on fragrantica and never realized growing up and up until now, that DV ain’t a brand or the house but the initials of the fragrance and I learned this fragrance I grew up with is a Houbigant! I was a fan and buying all this new niche line from Houbigant and I never realized I grew up with the holy grail from Houbigant with me the entire time 😂

Tested the Eau de Toilette version and it last almost only an hour, even when heavy sprayed. Really sad, love the DNA. WIll try out the extreme version too. Al Rehab Dakar is better and greener.

I don't know if it's just me but there's a body odorish cumin note in it that makes me angry that I purchased this over the original which I think doesn't have this "spice" note according to fragrantica... They also state reviews in it that there's a celery note that can come off animalic so maybe that's it

Great review. I have smelled it in the local store. Edt smells better than perfume. The opening is simple. There is nothing special about the first two hours. The drydown is amazing. Heavy does oakmoss. I don't believe that it is natural. It's 2018 batch. I have seen your review about Pour Monsieur. I have it.edt. 1965. The original one. I have it to my collection. You like parfum versions.I think they are vanilla based. Eau de Toilette versions have less performance but they smell better. Duc de vervins Eau de Toilette is Drakkar Noir without dihydromyrcenol. You're a fan of eighties powerhouse mens classics, try Fougère l'Aube by Rogue Perfumery (on Etsy). Non-IFRA-compliant and very strong. Mousse Illuminée is another retro mens scent from the same house.

id say the original version is closer to drakkar noir the L'Extreme version is very green and moss, the original is green as well but the l'extreme takes it a step further. if you are looking for a closer scent to drakkar get the original, but i enjoy both
