Bought my third Duc, 1997 900ss. Put a 14 teeth front sprocket on. K&N filter, open top airfilter box, Dynojet 2, standard looking mufflers made in Holland done by previous owner. Because of the lower gearing the bike becomes way more vivid & nicer to drive at low rpm. (at the cost of a lower mileage.....) Your clutch vid is really revealing ! Thank you for that. Cheers.

Love that you leave the real bits in Andy , like having to take the chain back off and rotate the wheel to get the chain tool in a good place , it's why jobs take twice the time ! Keep it coming fella great viewing .

Throw that chain breaker away. Once it's grounded use a screwdriver to pry the end of you ground. Then just pull the link off with your hand from the back or tap it off with a screwdriver and hammer.

I was always told that you'll replace 3 front sprockets for every back sprocket, just because it turns roughly 3 times more that the rear.
@stevenhoman2253

Clever system. A plate that holds down the drive sprocket on its splines. Only 2 small fasteners. Mechanically superior to a large securing nut, woodruf key and splines. Lighter and simpler. Maybe the sprockets weren't changes in tandem at some point? Sometimes uneven wear can save a few bucks.
@DistinctOgre
@DistinctOgre 5 жыл бұрын
Probably so, but the front always wears faster, assuming they're of the same material. Cuz it goes around 2 to 3 times as many times as the rear. Hope that makes sense, n I'll see ya ina bit.

You should've pointed out that it's best to use the wifes' face towel,same as I use her toothbrush to clean my chain. If you do it early in the morning you can have it back before she notices. On the sprocket thing,there was a time when poverty had me just turning the sprocket round with the hooked teeth facing the other way. Eventually the sprockets looked like a saucer and tea-plate.

Mr. Andy, if you were going to put the box in gear and use the engine to hold the front sprocket while you break the bolts (screws!) loose, what difference does it make if you left the chain on?

That is an excellent question and a fantastic observation, but there was method to my madness. If the gearbox didn’t hold it, which has happened to me in the past, I would have been able to use the rear brake.

I'm about to start on a Suzuki GS550M katana I'd like to put a set of 17inch rims on it I know it came out with 19 and18-inch rims what would be the best way to work out the rake and trail I know that I'm going to have to change the triple tree and the swingarm I'm looking at using gixxer or gsf bits

@ANDY5
@ANDY5 5 жыл бұрын
G’day mate. You could draw it out on paper and work it out. Rake is fixed with the frame parallel to the ground. If you know the rake angle you will need to work out what it will be with the new rims and tyres, at a guess the axle will be approximately one half inch lower in relation to the factory angles as you’re going down two inches in the front but only one inch in the rear. The trail is then worked out by drawing a line through the steering stem until it intersects with the ground. Draw a line down to the ground from the centre of your axle. The distance between the axle centre and the steering stem angle at ground level is your trail. Be aware that your rake is set by your yokes and not your steering stem. So rake is your actual fork angle. I did a video explaining take and trail kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmeniHR8jJyfpNU
