Ducati Cucciolo Restoration (Part 1)
It was more by chance than by choice that Ducati became a motorcycle manufacturer. After the war, Ducati started producing little 48cc clip-on engines after an agreement with Siata. This lay the basis for all Ducati motorcycles to follow.
We have been commissioned to restore a 1948 Ducati Cucciolo which is the subject of this first episode of a new restoration series. Harné discusses the historical background of how Ducati started making motorcycles. He also shows you around this particular Cucciolo and what we will need to do. Very interesting project! This engine is a later one, made by Ducati. The right crank leads to an elder engine made by Siata. If a Ducati engine is installed, then the crank must also show the Siata / Ducati brand. Some parts don't even belong on this chassis. Manuals are available already for free. The front hub have to be a "Rolex" too. [I can offer one...] 😃

Does it say "Rolex" in a cursive script on the rear hub ? .. also wondering if the rear fender is high to allow for suspension travel.. Thank you for sharing this journey !

Yes, the rear hub is a Rolex. Do you know anything about these? The operating mechanism for the gears is not in a very good shape and parts are missing. So if you can help us out in any way... let me know. The rear mudguard travels with the suspended wheel so there's no need for it being so high around the rear wheel.
