The rear shock on the 749 project bike is looking a bit sorry for itself, so Dave decides to improve it, but in a bid to save some pennies he buys a cheap replacement on ebay, that doesn't turn out so well!
Join Dave as he strips and rebuilds the shock and explains how the magic happens inside

It’s just the bleak nature of the algorithm. You have to play the game and jump through heaps of uploading loops to get shown more in searches. I agree though, Daves channel is top notch!

What a amazing and informative video sir! I have allways been little scary with doging service with my rear shocks and allways send them to specialist but damn. It is actually not that bad as i think. Thanks! From now on im not scared of rear shocks anymore.

The supposedly "unservicable" Sachs shock! Nice one Dave. P.s..why nitrogen and not good old free air? Best tutorial I've ever watched on the workings and repair of a shock..cheers.
@obsession_engineering
@obsession_engineering 2 жыл бұрын
Only because its dry, same reason high end race tyres use nitrogen, no moisture to alter pressure at temperature. Dried air would work just as well

It's impressive how mechanical engineers and fluid dynamicists have developed and refined these systems. I suppose when everything goes electronic, the engineering will change substantially.

Great info. If one were so inclined, could you increase the stroke of the shock to allow more wheel travel? Is there a spacer that sits in the seal head?

I can't actually remember on the ducati shock. Spacers are common on many road shocks, but usually there for a reason!

When I advertised the shocks I have sold and bought they are pictured from all sides,, but it's good shocks and low mileage,, only out because I bought an ohlins,,😞not good when it's intercepted on arrival,, but such is life ☘️☘️ from northern Ireland 😁

Hey, great Video, I´m doing the same to my Sachs shock at the moment, but how did you remove the Aluminium cap from the oil-reservoir and the ring from the cap of the gas-reservoir???
@obsession_engineering
@obsession_engineering 2 жыл бұрын
I use a small punch and hammer to gently persuade the oil side cap off, and knocking the gas side head down allows room to flick the circlip out

Hi Dave, Is it possible to fully service a ST2 rear shock ? Cheers Rich
@obsession_engineering
@obsession_engineering 2 жыл бұрын
Seal kits are available but some sachs shocks need modifying to allow re-gassing. The mid needed I'm not a fan of as it can add a weak point for gas leakage. If it has a remote res fir the gas it's much simpler and can be done no problem!

Do you know how to rebuild shock from versys 650 2007? It seems to be unserviceable.
@obsession_engineering

The short answer unfortunately is they can't be rebuilt. they're manufactured to a low cost and welded together. Replacement is the only real option, but a good chance to upgrade!
