Duchess of Cambridge visits Shooting Star Children's Hospice

The Duchess of Cambridge surprised children at the Shooting Star Children's Hospice in Hampton, Middlesex on Friday. The 31-year-old royal met with sick children, their families and hospital workers during her visit. Kate also participated in a music session, met volunteers and toured the facilities. The hospice is run by Shooting Star Chase, a charity which cares for 650 children and young people with life-limiting conditions at its centres in Hampton and Guildford. Report by Andrea Lilly.

Wow. 650 kids. Bless those kids as well as workers. It must get hard becoming attached and love them. I've done hospice for elderly but that is a bit different for people who have lived full lives. It isn't fair is it. That little girl is adorable.

I have to admit, this is probably the Duchess's best appearance. Though not yet at Diana's level of compassion (and that took years even for Diana to perfect), Kate appears to be much more at ease, and therefore more friendly and even a bit more down to earth than I think we have ever seen her.. She is dressed more comfortably, in pants, which allow her more freedom of movement. It's also nice to see her doing the half-kneel instead of bending over from the waist, to speak with the children at their level without invading their space. The fist bump was really cute, too. If she and Prince William would keep up with their appearances (i.e. royal duties), instead of just waiting until November/December (as has been done in the prior 2 years to make it appear that both have been busy all year, which they clearly have not), the Duchess can continue to learn and be more at ease in her position. I am encouraged by her performance here. I hope it will continue to improve.Good job!
