Joel, for those of us that only have public land to hunt (private land owners too I guess) Whatley features do you look for when scouting a new area to hunt? We tend to get over pressure on the honey holes.... Thanks!

Thank you for this video! I never thought about adding Liquid Bandage into our Lab's first aid kit. Great idea! While watching the video when you were talking about the ace bandage type wrap, it occurred to me that it might be a great idea to also include a muzzle. Even a well trained lovable dog might be a handful and potentially dangerous if they’re hurt and your are trying to "help" them. Until I watched your video I never thought about the first aid kit in depth.

Not mentioned because I guess it is basic but a vest for your dog does wonders in making them float higher and stay warm. If it is 65 or below I’m putting one on my little female chocolate. She is very skinny so she gets cold easily. For a larger or overweight dog they can handle much colder temps

Amazing tips! We have 6 hunting labs and like to keep towels to help dry them off and we also keep maxi pads with us too since they are super absorbent. Benadryl is also another great thing. I would have never thought of liquid bandage. That would be great to add to our kits. Thank you!

Once again another great video. My question is I have an American Lab cross with Golden Retriever. She is five months old now and coming along really well on water and land. I do not have access to pigions for training. So how can I transition my dog from the dummy to a bird when the time comes?

Good advice Joel!! Another important element is the transporting of your dog to and from the blind. I see to many guys expecting there dogs to ride in the back of a truck unprotected from the elements. I'm sure if the owner was to jump in the water during duck season and then ride home wet in the back of the truck, they would quickly invest in a travel box and some blankets for their loyal companions.

Joel- two questions actually. I got a lab puppy this year and she will be about 10 months old when season starts here. She is doing great, but Is that too young to take her on a hunt? Also, it gets pretty cold here in northern Indiana. Is there a temp where you wouldn’t take your dog out? We hunt lakes and her retrieves will be almost all while swimming. Thanks.

I’m adding three new items from this video to my dog kit - Thanks ! Question: when you need to make a move and don’t have a blind in that area what is your “go to” concealment strategy? I like to move to where I see birds working but feel like I’m sticking out like a sore thumb even with camouflage netting. What do you recommend for quick concealment?

Joel, I don't even have a dog but I want to some day. Loved the video and the great dog videos got me teary. My question would be, please give me some tips for identifying ducks on the wing for new shooters. I can do the colors and sizes, but it seems like those medium to large size ducks I really have to wait until they're in the 20 yard range to truly identify. Thanks so much for your help!

I think a great thing to be covered next episode would be, to see what you carry in your blind bag. What kind of blind bag do you carry, do you just have one or multiple ones depending on the situation, what do you carry in there and how might that change throughout the season to survive duck season. Also what are your tips and secrets to staying warm on those really cold days.

good video. guess my chassis are a little colder natured than most labs. We rarely use heaters usually only below about 20 degrees since we dont cook while hunting any more but we do have propane heaters available and occasionally a dog sits on bench next to it for a while. A sign that the dogs i hunt with are getting a little cold (or bored) they tend to lay down and curl up instead of sitting up and looking out even before the shivering stage.

Hey Joel, I'm a new subscriber, and hunted ducks for the first time in Arkansas 2019-2020 duck season. I really enjoy your videos. The question I have is what determines if you hunt timber, the river, or a field? I've mainly hunted the Arkansas river and the bayou meta.

That's a good idea for a video. It's all about scouting. If you have a good morning spot, you may start checking there first... but in the afternoons you have to be careful of hunting the roost. It can ruin a spot really quick. Glad you and your daughter love the channel- tell her I said "hello!" Joel

I've never had a dog get too cold (chessie guy here) but I have had dogs get too hot while pulling a sled in spring time. Scary stuff. If you towel off a dog in the blind it is better to just wipe in the direction the fur grows. You do not want to get the underfur soaked. Even if it is wet, it is warm wet. A pad cut takes forever to heal and you cannot sew it up. Do you glue the insides of the cut together or do you hold the cut closed and glue the outside? Thanks. My question for your Q& A video: Do you watch other wildfowl youtubers? if so, who? Do you watch Warren Hicks? Thanks for the video.
