Superb. These videos alone make U tube worth having. It’s a real shame that the early films don’t seem to be available. I’d happily accept any degradation just to be able to see them.

I'm very sad to report that my great friend and one half of Duck End Pictures, Peter Strange, died suddenly on Sunday 19th April. It was Peter's beautiful garden railway in Oxfordshire, and his ever growing collection of exquisite Bassett-Lowke rolling stock, that inspired the 'Cyril and Daisy' stories. Over the years we had enormous fun together, spending the winter months creating the stories and planning the filming sequences, building sets and filming indoor scenes. By May we were ready to move outside and play with the trains. Together we sometimes laughed till we cried at the absurdity of the adventures of these two little people. We always felt that the fact that they couldn't actually move required extra thought and informed our creativity. The films were a genuine collaboration; we each contributed in our own way. I will look back with great pleasure on the fun we had together. We were always very pleased to receive positive comments about the films - so a big 'thank you' for making the effort to post on here. It was good to know that there are others who shared our whimsical sense of humour. Sadly, there will be no more Cyril and Daisy films. However, I have two sequences nearly completed from our next film which I will edit and post as an unfinished project in the next few weeks. Paul Rhodes

Contract negotiations are now completed with Cyril and Daisy and we are all working on a new film which will be launched around October time. Daisy is the brains behind the team and drove a hard bargain, particularly since this new film calls for some emotional acting! In the end they settled for a 6d raise and iced buns at the catering hut. Cyril is just happy for the opportunity to ride on trains.

Thank you once again for all the very kind comments, we really appreciate that you have taken to time to respond to our whimsical offerings! Our news is that we have a new film almost completed, which should be available to view in early October - there are just a few final edits to make (Daisy is a dream to work with but Cyril can be a bit vague at times). Look out for 'Not Quite Cricket', the latest Cyril and Daisy adventure!

The effort that's clearly gone in to this is exceptional. It kinda reminds me of a non-narrated, real-life Thomas The Tank Engine but with more adult wit.

Thank you, that's very much appreciated. I have passed on the news of our award to Cyril and Daisy, and Daisy is celebrating by making a battenberg cake to have with their tea, although I expect Cyril would prefer a bottle of his usual brown ale.

My Grandfather, Richard Donovan, owns a gauge one garden railway, as well as a selection of video tapes, one of which is a video filmed on a garden railway, of which the film was called "return ticket to duck end". This was one of my favourites when I went round to their house and still brings back happy memories of your wonderful garden railway.
@duckendpictures40854 жыл бұрын
Thank you for posting this comment. It's good to know that the early films are remembered - it was a long time ago now. We reminded Cyril and Daisy of their early work as young jobbing actors. Daisy remembers particularly that she was 'barely 21' at the time which is odd because she claims to still be 21 now.

love the inside carriage shots even if green screened.....
@duckendpictures40858 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind comment, and glad you enjoyed it. Actually, the inside carriage shots are not green screened - it's much simpler than that (camera and set mounted together on a turntable). In fact, there are no visual special effects in any of our films, we just try things out until we find a practical solution.
@duckendpictures40858 жыл бұрын
You might be thinking of the scene where the train leaves the station. For that one we mounted the camera and set on a plank and dragged it along the track. I seem to remember that it took a few goes!

Thank you John, we're all fine. We have a story in the pipeline but due to other commitments and the necessity of railway infrastructure improvements, progress has been a bit slow this year. If we can agree terms with Cyril and Daisy we should have a new film out by early summer next year.

@duckendpictures40858 жыл бұрын

Cyril did let us have a quick look through the book. If I remember rightly, the entry for 'grouse' was, 'A bird that doesn't like the sound BANG'.
