Of course, there are advantages and disadvantages for both split and central AC systems. The split AC unit installed in a room has more advantages than ducted vents/grills (as in many homes in India with ACs). This single unit is easy to maintain and clean (filter) than a long ducted AC vent. The ducted grills shown by Mr. Kuriakose, give an impression or appearance that is a commercial building, such as an office or a hotel room. Moreover, in India, particularly in Kerala, many bugs, and even small snakes and rats, can hide inside the grills. Moreover, it is hard to keep the grills clean than the other single unit insalled on the wall. A central AC (with ducted air with cool or hot air) 2.5 ton can cool/heat a home with 1,000 to 2,500 sq. ft. (three floors-basement, first flood or ground floor, and 2nd floor). Central humidifier and central electronic filter can also be installed on the furnace of a central AC. I am talking about how the AC system works in the United States. But ductled system can be used only if Western or U.S.-style homes are built with gypsum panels. In this case, it is easy to build the ducts through the gypsum boards and wooden frames. In the U.S., the AC vents/grills have a size of 8 x 8, 8 x 4, 6 x 4, etc. The vents have features to direct the air flow to three different areas. These are common standard sizes in the United Sates. In northern U.S. states, the AC vents are installed close to the floor in most homes. In southern U.S. states, AC vents are installed on ceilings and/or on walls, just under the ceilings (less labor). If a room does not need any cool/hot air, the vents can be closed. In commercial buildings, the AC ducts are installed on the falls ceilings. Some buildings have vents which can be seen, but many buildings have vents which one cannot see at all, unless thoroughly looked for such vents.
