so all our structures should be ductile? what if they get too overweigh?

@@Innotutorial normally structure like horizontal and low rise doesnt require high ductility or to defined its ductility

@@m.a.nogales2539 The self weight of the building itself for low rise should be able to dissipate the energy without sudden failure. But just as high rise buildings, a low rise building has a high chance of collapsing during high frequency earthquake. Remember Earthquake is not a force hitting the building. Earthquake is Inertia inserted on the building cause due to the ground shaking which make the building want to stay in it's natural g. So I feel ductility is important for both low and high rise as per the design code which need to be followed during the analysis and design. Increasing the strength of building decrease is ductility and earthquake which is Inertia demand more ductility, be it for low rise and high rise. Just what I think.

@@Innotutorial yeah bro ductility is important but for low-rise like less than two storey sometimes we neglect the effect of earthquake. yeah correct ductility is important
