This song is very special to me... I was literally in the middle of pulling that trigger when this came on and gave me enough pause to see the irony. I changed everything in my life and got off the booze and other drugs... so thankful

Yes… he has an amazing voice! I have seen Shinedown live many times….. I also have noticed when seeing them, one of the very few front men for a rock band, almost never swears/curses, always talking about spreading love and joy and always talks about making sure the audience is having a good time. This is 100% one of my favorite rock bands!

best rock singer is so subjective. This Shinedown song is almost 20 years old, which is insane to think about. Power vocals, this dude for sure is top 5. The guy From Submersed similar power vocals. scott weiland/Scott Stapp comes to mind as well if you want that "doors" throat sound. David Draimen from Disturbed probably best for me and probably the most universal rock choice. That dude can literally do it all.

Comparing his ability to creed or disturbed is insulting. Both of those bands have one style of vocal that makes them unique. This guy has way more pure vocal ability/belts, as well as frys.

Brent Smith is probably my favorite male vocalist of all time. I've seen Shinedown live 6 times. At one show (Weenie Roast 10 in Charlotte, NC), they only allocated the band 30-45 minutes of time on the main stage. They had a huge crowd so they ended up playing for an hour and a half. As their allocated time was limited, they were only allowed their main guitars on stage (some bands will pre tune multiple guitars to switch out between songs depending on tone/range etc). Between songs, Brent would put a foot on a speaker and belt a note and hold it for a minute or longer while the Jasin and Nick would would tune for the next song. They are one of the best live shows I've ever experienced.

*Brent Smith and Myles Kennedy are definitely 2 of the top singers in my opinion. If you want to go old school, Geoff Tate (Queensryche), Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) and Rob Halford (Judas Priest) are at the top.*

Another older tune I REALLY like from them, is "Save Me" - newer stuff I like - "Black Soul" , or for a different, very positive feel, check out "Brilliant", very up-beat up-tempo. Powerfull anthems like Boom-Lay (Diamond Eyes) never go wrong either tho! Edit: Oh and also! A great live performance, which is also a cover: "With a Little Help from my Friends" live from Kansas City in 2012 I belive?

Dear @Van, AGAIN, I am going to post an almost IDENTICAL comment to that of one I did regarding Def Leppard yesterday asking to react to OLD Shinedown in your future . I’ve asked this before . It went unnoticed. Their original guitarist and bassist were GREAT - the guitarist being a BEAST and the band’s overall sound was pure high energy, kickass rock. After their first 2 albums and those two left the band, even though the singer and drummer are still so good, the new guitarist and bassist brought in a new vibe that just changed the whole scene and no matter what they’ve tried since and even though they’ve enjoyed some moderate successes, they NEVER have come anywhere CLOSE to all the KILLER, WONDERFUL, BLOWOUT stuff they did in their early years. Always been a damn shame because I’ve ALWAYS loved BrentSmiths voice and longed for the return of those glory days. Soooo, I just listen to all their old stuff AND their great stuff that they recorded but never put in albums. By the way- this song, “45” is one of their older songs from their first couple albums that I’m talking about and the bassist and guitarist in this video are the originals. EVERYONE here are the original 4 band members here and this was their best set up by FAR. Wanna see some footage of them from them at their first tour when they were young? I’ll come back and add the link below if it’s still on KZbin. Check out their high energy- it was CRAAAZY FUN!!😄 That whole concert at one time was on KZbin and could also be purchased in stores on VHS tape and possibly CD. I have it and it is terrific! Here are some old stuff that I HIGHLY recommend you use your next times checking: Fly From The Inside(TRY FIRST!) Heros Burning Bright In Memory Better Version Stranger Inside Left Out Save Me Lady So Divine Carried Away Lost In The Crowd Crying Out No More Love kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZWXeZmMmryqY9U Julie in Texas 😛🤟

So glad someone is reacting to Shinedown...they don't get enough love from Rock reations. Best Rock singer...I'm biased as Shinedown has been my favorite (modern) Rock band for nearly 20 years...and it's in large part because Brent Smith is just so amazing. I've seen them live 5 times...dude is seriously legit. But I can't sleep on the likes of David Draiman (Disturbed), Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Adam Grontier (Three Days Grace), Benjamin Burnley (Breaking Benjamin), Amy Lee (Evanescence) or even Chester Bennington (Linkin Park). But Brent Smith gets my vote.

I agree with other comments that choosing a best rock singer is absolutely subjective. Those I feel should hold the title won't be the same as you or most others. That being said, David Draimen has got to be at the top of most people's list (top 3-5). He has so much talent, range and technique. There's no question he has one of the best voices in rock right now. Personally, I would add Myles Kennedy to the top of my list as well. There's something mesmerizing about his voice. He has range, no doubt, but there's a special quality to his voice. Those are my top two. Brent Smith is absolutely in my top 5. LOVE Shinedown! Favorite songs: Almost the entire Amaryllis album! Especially Adrenaline, Bully, Enemies, I'm Not Alright, I'll Follow You and Through the Ghost.

To nail a power note hard ee as in meet or hard u as in moo or mew: * Try using an embouchure in between e and u, with slightly puckered lips * The differences between hard e and u would be very slight, nearly indiscernible, near the center of the tongue. Think Americanized butchering of the German eu, ue, ë, or ü. * Point chin up or down and/or lean back or forward, if any of that helps. (TIP BELOW!) This method produces a unique sound combining enunciation and power control. It’s catchy, great for a song’s hook rather than diluted by overuse in verse or chorus. TIP -> There are numerous combinations of chin pointing (throat) and lean (chest). I used to use just one combination of chin and lean for belting, for example, and stood up straight and faced forward for everything else. Recently I learned that another combination was super helpful with breath control needed to nail a high note I couldn’t have dreamed of hitting since I blew my pipes out years ago. They are all probably utilized by a true master singer so I’m going to keep trying new positions to see if I can regain some of the range and reliability. If this post helps anyone, please let me know via reply! It would absolutely make my day!!!

A little late to the party, but I'd have to say even among giants like Brent Smith(Shinedown,) David Draiman(Disturbed,) and Josh Kiszka(Greta Van Fleet,) I'd have to say that the *best* modern vocalist I've ever heard is Marko Saaresto of Finnish Alt-Rock band 'Poets of the Fall.' They don't get a lot of attention here in the States - although they're by no means unknown - but Marko has an AMAZING Baritone, with tight control of his falsetto, which they use to excellent effect in a number of their songs. 'Daze,' 'Lift,' 'Choice Millionaire,' and 'Love Will Come to You' are good examples of his talent.

He has a great voice without a doubt but in reality the man with the biggest range vocally in rock music is Michael Patton from Faith No More. Check into it. It will blow your mind. Phil Anselmo from Pantera has huge range too but Michael beats them all and most people dont even realize what he is capable of when all you need to do is really listen and pay attention. Thank you to all the amazing vocalists out there for making it look easy!

Disturbed is an American heavy metal band . The band includes vocalist David Draiman, guitarist/keyboardist Dan Donegan, bassist John Moyer, and drummer Mike Wengren. He is a baritone with outrageous range and known for a few thing when it comes to singing. His "percussive" ability to vocalize, his rich tones in holding notes, his range of vocal control (and i mean phenomenal control) , his operatic voice range and his ability to "distort" his voice just to mention a few outstanding facts. If you like Shinedown and Brent Smith's abitlity to show power and emotion in his singing you will adore David Draiman who I personally believe is better. You will get goosebumps of his ability. "Down with the Sickness" "A Reason to Fight" the remake of "the Sound of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkel

Dang it, you had me excited about tool. I love me some shine down, but now I feel like you owe us some too lol. Thanks for the reaction, man. I love watching people react to this kinda stuff. It’s like I get a bit of the magic of hearing it for the first time. Keep rocking!

Greta van fleet is pretty bad ass. Their lead singer can hang with Robert Plant. I’ve read probably five Zeppelin books and watched a ton of their documentaries. Greta van fleet is massively underrated.

Yeah, this song is amazing! Another few suggestions for other songs by this group: "I'll Follow You", "I Dare You", and "Diamond Eyes".
