I think what you saw was an illusion of Geshu Lin, and that Jiyan felt guilty for not being able to save his general. I believe he's being held captive somewhere or turned into one of those things by the threnodians

Geshu lin and Jiyan are both general Geshu lin is the former general before jiyan. but after the fight against ovathrax, geshu lin disappeared and was blamed for the soldier that died in that battle and he was never seen again. after that Jiyan became the new general

i think as the lore video said during "that fight" lin told his soldiers to keep fighting while jiyan told em to retreat but it still lead to deaths and lin took this upon his name and jiyan has a clear social image, but lin's now back...

i think they knew each other even before the war, and Jiyan work under him as a doctor / medical team. The battle scene between jiyan and Geshu is to show us how coflicted Jiyan's mind is he worthy person to be a general ? will he be blamed and forsaken like the previous general ? Well we will know the true story once the game release, and i cannot wait!! ps they deleted the video because Jiyan's name on the splash art is still in kanji

that makes sense, i was so confused about why it was deleted. also ooh, they DID mention Jiyan was previously a doctor at some point. I'm really curious how the story is gonna go for him, but it seems like he got a lot of respect from the soldiers so I doubt he will be forsaken like the previous general!

Pretty sure jiyan was the doctor during geshu command, the "no retreat! it's fight or die" is geshu line for sure.

I think the old general is comparing Jiyan to himself because both failed to protect everyone. He probs thinks Jiyan isnt worthy of being called a general, even tho he failed to end the war. Idk its a little confusing, we might understand it better in Jiyan’s story

@@alfianx1819 hmm, yeah that would make more sense with the lore video that said he disappeared. i was kinda unsure since it seemed it was during or around that whole "battle" since the rain was going upwards. it being in his mind though, it makes a lot more sense. perhaps a battle of Jiyan comparing himself and feeling like he failed because he didn't win the war?

Geshu Lin didn't just fail his people but he refused to follow orders. They expected him to be a god like person because he was the only Magistrate of Jué (the dragon), that will always win and save everyone so even if he did manage to save everyone, Ovathrax (the real Crownless) would have won if Geshu Lin didn't sacrifice himself to stop it. Jiyan is still full of regret for not saving everyone, there will always be people dying even if you do your best, its why Geshu Lin is appearing in his mind, its not him but the Threnodian that are playing with his mind. Geshu Lin is probably still alive, he might be a playable character too with how detailed he is and Kuro insisting on that character.

I didn't see it mentioned or I must have missed it, but it also adds to the whole "blamed him for the loss" theme they had said. And yeah, even doing his best people will still be lost :(, I can see it being the Threnodian but I thought it was only towards fallen comrades they said? or does it also just affect people in general no matter if dead or alive?

Tons of characters are like that, IMO, but I personally feel that the whole military thing is unique enough, perhaps precisely because I’ve been consuming war media for a very long time. The military is rough and Jiyan’s dedication to weather and honour his path, alongside his army and past, is truly touching to me.

@@YaMizu you can even see the resemblance in the trailer: Jiyan is fighting his past by reminiscing in the rain (like in dan heng animated short), the other general who's fighting Jiyan to confront his past mistakes and the purple flowers that grow in his presence (Blade's red flowers). i mean cmon it's pretty obvious.

Dude, there's practically NOTHING similar between the two characters you're comparing at all 😐 The only comparisons is that they're men, they have green dragon aesthetics, and they use spears. If you take 5 seconds to actually learn about their characters then you'd see that Dan Heng is a man who is forced to confront the sins of his past incarnation despite being an entirely different person than Dan Feng, but with Jiyan he's a former medic who, while working under the old general Geshu Lin, became a hero to his soldiers as he helped them retreat and saved many lives amidst a war. Nothing about their situations are similar to me.
