2 months after my grouse incident, I have returned to to snowbank with two friends and completed the trail. Mid to late August is no joke, the trails are super overgrown, especially with all of the rain this summer. It is some of the most difficult backpacking I’ve done. However, I feel very proud, accomplishing it and a big kudos to anyone else who have attempted or finished Boundary waters backpacking.

Dang that mountain lion was huge. They're around where I hike but it's very rare to ever see one. I'd probably freak out with that many ticks lol. Ey cool turtle. Great video 👍

I haven't seen ticks that bad since a hike in Big South Fork. I've been wearing permethrin soaked long pants and socks since then. I even dunk my hammock in a bucket of permethrin a couple of times each year to keep ticks and mosquitoes away.

It's definitely one of my favorite trails. I find a new campsite I enjoy every trip. I can't wait to get back up there!

Those ticks were crazy! I’ve been lucky enough to elude them so far but you never know. Great video as always!

I miss Ely my family is from there and I used to live there. I still have family there who run Canoe Country Outfitters love it but I'm in GA now... Also I had a mountain lion claw it's way through the roof of our cabin off of Low lake and destroyed the inside.

I carry two Deet wipes a day specifically for that tick issue.

That's crazy I've done hundreds of trips in the BWCA both hiking and canoeing and have found ticks on my clothes but have never been bitten by one

Wasn't too far from you. We were over at Grand Portage. I thought about you every time I was "hiking". I have great appreciation for what you do!

I couldn't find that campsite on Alworth either, last summer (2023).

Time to think about adding a "googly eye" mod to the back of packs. Cats like to sneak up from behind.

I was just trying to do that exact trail and I had to turn around because a grouse started attacking me and after it got 3 attacks in on me I used my bear mace. The mace then blew back at me and I had to turn around and go 8miles back to the trailhead.

If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments. Did your other bluetooth speaker die, or did you upgrade? Fancy green highlights.

Think Picaridin lotion every 5 miles would reduce the number of ticks or would they laugh at it?

Would you do anything different for the ticks next time you hiking there?

My clothes were treated with permethrin. I would have sprayed myself with deet.

Hopefully they've fixed the boardwalk over the bog the beavers destroyed otherwise youbwill be up to your crotch in bog. When I did angleworm I was hauling a canoe and it was one of the most miserable times of my boundaryvwaters trips. That portage is miserable. I made the switch to a ursack with a sentproof nylaflume liner. Much easier than trying ro find a decent hanging spot.
