@oxfordenglishnow
@oxfordenglishnow 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Oversama, technically you should be able to replace due to/because with caused by and it should work. However, many many native speakers interchange these phrases all the time, so it is a technical detail. Hope that this helps! 🙏

@hadivazifehdan5596 2 жыл бұрын
Well actually you used them wrong again dude, this is what you said: I've been using them incorrectly the entire time, due to my failure to ever look up their differences. So here, "have been using" is your verb and as a result you use because of, also remember she gave us some tips like replacing due to with caused by and if it makes sense, we keep it. In addition to that, if we have a to be verb at the very end of our dependent clause ( the one that contains because of and due to ), we use due to. Hop this helps dude, keep it up.
@Oversamma
@Oversamma 2 жыл бұрын
@@hadivazifehdan5596 You are absolutely correct, and I appreciate your assistance. Yet to be honest, I've for the most given up on this rule and now use "because of" and "due to" interchangeably because that's what 99% of people appear to be doing.

Very good grammar lesson! Many thanks! Is it possible to use "Due to" at the beginning of a sentence? In my opinion it is not because "due to" modifies pronouns and nouns but I often hear sentences like this: "Due to the end of the lease, we had to move". Could you please give an example, if "due to" can use at the beginning of a sentence? It is really confusing because so many people have different opinions about that. Thank you very much!

I have seen several sentences using due to but it is grammatically wrong according to your explanation. For example: Due to air pollution, the birds are dying. It seems like impossible to make a sentence starting with "due to", does it mean that "due to" can't lead a sentence?

Can you explain the difference between due to and on account of
@oxfordenglishnow
@oxfordenglishnow 2 ай бұрын
Certainly! "Due to" and "on account of" are both phrases used to express the reason or cause of something, but they are used in slightly different contexts and have different grammatical structures. 1. "Due to" Meaning: "Due to" means "caused by" or "because of." It is typically used to link a cause directly to a noun or noun phrase. It often follows a form of the verb "to be" (e.g., is, was, were). Usage: "Due to" is generally used as an adjective phrase that modifies a noun. Examples: "The game was canceled due to rain." (The cancellation is directly caused by the rain.) "His success is due to hard work." (His success is a result of his hard work.) 2. "On account of" Meaning: "On account of" is similar in meaning to "because of" or "due to," but it is more versatile and can be used in a broader range of contexts. Usage: "On account of" is a prepositional phrase and can modify verbs, entire clauses, or sentences. It is used to explain why something happened or to give a reason. Examples: "The flight was delayed on account of bad weather." (The delay happened because of the bad weather.) "She stayed home on account of feeling ill." (Her staying home was a result of her feeling ill.) Key Differences: Grammatical Role: "Due to" is typically used after a form of the verb "to be" and modifies nouns. "On account of" can modify verbs, clauses, or sentences and is more flexible. Formality: "Due to" is slightly more formal and is often used in formal writing or speech. "On account of" is less formal and can be used in everyday conversation. Interchangeability: In some cases, "due to" and "on account of" can be used interchangeably, but it’s important to ensure the sentence structure is appropriate for the phrase being used. For instance: Correct: "The meeting was postponed due to the CEO's absence." Correct: "The meeting was postponed on account of the CEO's absence." In this example, both phrases work, but "due to" feels more formal, while "on account of" is more conversational.

Hi Sunil, I will try and do a video for you but briefly: till is up to (the time that); until: For example: We waited till six thirty for you. Whereas by is not later than; at or before: She had promised to be back by five o'clock. Hope this helps! 😀

How should I decide which word should I use because the same sentence can be express either by cause-words or by effect-words like Everyone buys it because it is reasonably priced or It is reasonably priced. Therefore, everyone buys it. What is the difference?
@oxfordenglishnow
@oxfordenglishnow 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Trafalgar Law, It appears to me that both your sentences show the cause of why everyone buys it, because it is reasonably priced. I would say that the difference is a question of style and author choice of how to phrase. Hope that helps! 🙏

Hello! What's the main difference between owing to, beacuse of, due to, on account of plz make me understand
@oxfordenglishnow
@oxfordenglishnow Жыл бұрын
Oh that’s a big question. Well due to and because of are in this lesson and I will have to do another lesson to help you with the others! In the meantime, the Cambridge dictionary says: owing to means : because of: The concert has been cancelled owing to lack of interest. And on account of means: because of something: He doesn't drink alcohol on account of his poor health. I hope that helps!

Very good video! How about this: 'We are having a problem. This is due to you.' Or should we say: 'We are having a problem. This is because of you' According to the rule it should be 'due to', but it sounds strange because of the pronoun 'you'. Is here an exception to the rule? Greetings Joern

Hi, you are right but in everyday in English we often mix up the two words so you will often hear because of when it really should be due to. I would say that in written English it is good to show you know the difference. I hope that helps.
