I can't believe I never knew. Due to my failure to ever look up their differences, I've been using them incorrectly the entire time. But it is because of this video that I will do so no longer. Much obliged!
@oxfordenglishnow4 жыл бұрын
Hi Oversama, technically you should be able to replace due to/because with caused by and it should work. However, many many native speakers interchange these phrases all the time, so it is a technical detail. Hope that this helps! 🙏
@hadivazifehdan55962 жыл бұрын
Well actually you used them wrong again dude, this is what you said: I've been using them incorrectly the entire time, due to my failure to ever look up their differences. So here, "have been using" is your verb and as a result you use because of, also remember she gave us some tips like replacing due to with caused by and if it makes sense, we keep it. In addition to that, if we have a to be verb at the very end of our dependent clause ( the one that contains because of and due to ), we use due to. Hop this helps dude, keep it up.
@Oversamma2 жыл бұрын
@@hadivazifehdan5596 You are absolutely correct, and I appreciate your assistance. Yet to be honest, I've for the most given up on this rule and now use "because of" and "due to" interchangeably because that's what 99% of people appear to be doing.

Can you explain the difference between due to and on account of
@oxfordenglishnow2 ай бұрын
Certainly! "Due to" and "on account of" are both phrases used to express the reason or cause of something, but they are used in slightly different contexts and have different grammatical structures. 1. "Due to" Meaning: "Due to" means "caused by" or "because of." It is typically used to link a cause directly to a noun or noun phrase. It often follows a form of the verb "to be" (e.g., is, was, were). Usage: "Due to" is generally used as an adjective phrase that modifies a noun. Examples: "The game was canceled due to rain." (The cancellation is directly caused by the rain.) "His success is due to hard work." (His success is a result of his hard work.) 2. "On account of" Meaning: "On account of" is similar in meaning to "because of" or "due to," but it is more versatile and can be used in a broader range of contexts. Usage: "On account of" is a prepositional phrase and can modify verbs, entire clauses, or sentences. It is used to explain why something happened or to give a reason. Examples: "The flight was delayed on account of bad weather." (The delay happened because of the bad weather.) "She stayed home on account of feeling ill." (Her staying home was a result of her feeling ill.) Key Differences: Grammatical Role: "Due to" is typically used after a form of the verb "to be" and modifies nouns. "On account of" can modify verbs, clauses, or sentences and is more flexible. Formality: "Due to" is slightly more formal and is often used in formal writing or speech. "On account of" is less formal and can be used in everyday conversation. Interchangeability: In some cases, "due to" and "on account of" can be used interchangeably, but it’s important to ensure the sentence structure is appropriate for the phrase being used. For instance: Correct: "The meeting was postponed due to the CEO's absence." Correct: "The meeting was postponed on account of the CEO's absence." In this example, both phrases work, but "due to" feels more formal, while "on account of" is more conversational.
