Always lower the tire pressure to 15psi when driving on soft sand. Also, when towing another car, don't drive so fast like that 1st recovery, drive slow and use the torque of the car to slowly pull the vehicle like the second recovery in this video. Defenders break easily anyways, they are shit cars.
