Watching you work on and fighting with the dear John makes me glad I didn’t get one. Ended up getting a gleaner L3 hydro, belts-bearings and motor are all out in the open and easily accessible.

Back in high school, I worked for a farmer, and we were getting his 7720 turbo ready. When he started it ,a raccoon ran out and got hung in the drive belt under the seat. You talk about a mess and a nightmare of a day we didn't have in mind when we started the day. I feel for ya those belts are a pain the ass.

Don't forget to grease the fitting under the seat. It's on that main shaft and hidden in a pulley close to the engine.Many people don't know of it until it is too late.

Must be a comfort to know that big pulley wheel and belt are whizzing around at a million miles an hour so close to your ass sat on that seat 😰😰😰. when we fitted new belts we used rattle cans of paint a different colour for each season and put a couple of dots on the new belt that way we knew what year it was replaced .

That cart is the same as a John Deere 500 cart. Cut a door on the bottom of the tube to let the water out during the off season, the seals go bad on the auger side. You will put seals or a gear box in every year if you don’t.
@dougford5259Ай бұрын
The Deere 500 was made by UFT. This one was made by Parker Manufacturing. It has an inner and out door at bottom of auger housing. But you are correct about leaving the doors open so rain/snow, etc runs thru and out.

Maybe cut that hole bigger in the shield where the belt goes through it so you don’t ruin your belt. I noticed it was already wore down where the belt was rubbing against it.

Please, please use only grade 8 bolts for shear bolts. Looks like you are getting a lot done to me regardless of what time you start in the morning. Keep up the good work!
@carldodds4288Ай бұрын
If you’re going to use a grade 8 bolt to replace a shear bolt it’s no longer a shear bolt but a solid fastener. A shear bolt is a weak link to protect the device and if it cannot fail you risk damaging the device its protecting.
@dougford5259Ай бұрын
@@carldodds4288 Believe it or not, a grade 8 bolt will shear much quicker than a grade 5. The 5 will bend and try its darnedest to hold while he 8 just pops in two. I know it sounds completely stupid and contradictory common sense. But it works. I called BS on it when I was taught that as a teen. But being much older now and 40 years in repair/parts/farming, I am a firm believer.
@carldodds4288Ай бұрын
@@dougford5259 any sheared grade 8 bolts I’ve encountered so far have caused so much carnage to either the shafting- coupler or items farther down stream. Maybe you have different quality fasteners than we do in the great white north? If it works for you keep it up.
