Soparnik Festival
Do you know what a steamer is?
Soparnik - once a poor man's dish under the protection of UNESCO.
The history of soparnik dates back to the time of the Turks when soparnik was a symbol of poor people's food because it was made from simple and readily available ingredients. A little Swiss chard, a little garlic, a little olive oil, and a simple dough is the hallmark of every soparnik.
In 2019, at the 15th Festival of Polish soparnik, a monument to the soparnik was unveiled, the work of the artist Teo Baučić: a Polish woman with a soparnik in her hand, a bronze statue 175 centimeters high.
The soparnik festival is already a widely known gastronomic-tourist-traditional spectacle for all of Poljica, Poljica traditions and way of life, especially for lovers of healthy and delicious local food.
The essence of a good steamer is Swiss chard and good olive oil. Some households grow Swiss chard only for the preparation of steamers. Traditionally, soparnik is baked on the stove under the embers on the sinija, or, to translate - on the fireplace on a round wooden table. Each part of the family has its recipe passed down from generation to generation.
The people of Poljica are already preparing Swiss chard, onions, salt, flour, and oil to make this specialty known even beyond the borders of Lijepa naše.
Soparnik is a delicacy that was among the first in Croatia to receive the mark of authenticity and tells the story of the history and culture of a people.
Come, Dugi Rat Riviera is waiting for you...
